ill be there playing in both events. Good luck to everyone. Short races, the rolls play a big factor in LV.

Hi Dave,

Saw your name on the list of qualifiers for 8 ball. Hope we get a chance to meet. Perhaps if enough of us AZ folks are in Vegas we can have a meet and greet. Have a safe trip out and good luck.

Awesome Lyn, that sounds good. Im pretty easy to spot. 6-2 skinny japanese player who misses alot!

Folks,

Guess I did a poor job of describing the information I wanted to know. Has anyone been to the APA Singles event in Vegas? How many players are there on each SL bracket? Do they average 150? 100? Less? I'm curious as to how many players make the trek.

When I play BCAPL, the Open 8 ball singles in Vegas has about 1400 players on average. Roughly APA SL 5 & 6. The Advanced Division had about 120. Roughly APA 7. Masters around 90. APA does not have a skill level equal to this. Roughly the top 5% of APA 7's if not less.

Really don't know what to expect when I get there in April.

Thanks for the help.

Lyn

Ok, I have to take a minute to absorb this..

Are you serious that the 'Open' division in typically APA 5s and 6s?

If that's the case, I better send in my entry and reserve my room. :o

I mentioned in a previous post, I think the last time I was in Vegas for 8b singles, there were somewhere around 90+ in the 6/7 bracket. It may have been more, I can't really remember. What I do remember, though, is the bracket's almost as big as the rest of the 8b brackets combined.. or at least it looked like it. The 4s and 5s may be getting bigger now, though.

I just looked at last year's list.. somewhere around 200. So, I was a little off. ;)

Edit: If you make it to 17th, you get a commemorative cue and an extra $100. There were only 29 players in the 2/3 bracket with the same purse.

Banks,

That is my assessment of the level of play I found during the first five or six rounds last year. Once on the big board of 64 winners and 64 one loss, the play level rose to borderline 6 / 7. The last five or six matches were definitely sevens. The last match I won was against Dustin Morris who won the APA Black Tier last year. Think you would agree he and Luke would be APA "Super" 7's.

Last night, one of our league opponents was telling me how he was going to Vegas for the first time to win the BCAPL singles. Reminded him of my first trip out about twenty years ago. I was going to win for sure. Remember I one / two'ed out of the event. Sure learned a lot that year. Primarily, I wasn't nearly as good as I thought I was. Also learned that lesson many time again till last year.

Wow, a commemorative cue! Now you'e done it. I'll be at the table practicing 23.5 hours per day till April 25th. When they ask how I improved so much, I'll mention your post  :grin-square:!

Thanks for the information Banks. Look forward to meeting you.

Lyn, here is the board for the 8 and 9ball events from 2012 that you will likely be on. Just to give you and idea of the field you can expect to see at nationals.

I'm going to be there. Started playing serious (not bar pool) in August. Went from losing my first 3 matches all the way down to an apa 2 average. Got tired of losing real quick. Now I practice 4-5 days a week and made my way up to a 5. Qualified as a 4 and admitted (filled out the green form) saying I am really a 5 now before the singles regional. Everything went well and I qualified for vegas.

I'll have to give a game away every match but who cares I'm gong to be in vegas on someone elses dime.

Dave,

What a small world this really is. The fellow who beat you first round last year, Dave Driedel won the qualifier I attended last March. Beat him in the second round. I then lost to another local Rochester player who then lost to Dave for the trip.

Thanks so much for the information. I recognize quite a few names on the eight ball chart from my travels to Vegas. That was the information I really wanted! First beers on me. Maybe the second too :grin-square:!
