April 14, 2007- New Orleans - Buffalo Billiards

I don' know

Sounds tempting and I may take you up on that. I'm a little uneasy though. He looks like he may be a cousin on my pappy's side, and all them boys in the Mississippi branch of the family get mean when they get to drink'n.

What is the minimum age for Buffalo Billiards? I have some straight shooting young guns I would like to bring.;)

RAY, the tournament is this weekend. Hope to see you and your young guns this weekend. If everyone comes it should be a great tournament. Several people from over Florida and Mississippi and Alabama have mentioned that they are coming.

Tell you young guns that this should not frighten them as it is a short race on tough Diamond 9 footers and ANYTHING can happen against ANY player. With the payout at 25% of the field, one out of 4 people will come in the money. The Calcutta will be additional cash to be shared.

You may be 18 years of age and play in this tournament, JUST DON'T GET CAUGHT DRINKING A SIP OF BEER OR YOU WILL BE OUT OF THE TOURNAMENT AND OUT OF THE POOL HALL. You're not 18 are ya Ray?

Buffalo Billiards- 504-279-2137, Metairie, LA Airline Drive in metairie, LA (safe suburbs of New Orleans)

Ohhh to be 18 again! My wife says that I think I'm 18 but my body quickly reminds me I'm not. LOL. My son is 19 and is starting to play pretty sporty! It's looking like business may take me in another direction this weekend, I should know by Tuesday or Wed. Hopefully we can make it down. We love Diamond tables! Just don't get to compete on them very often.

Are these tables Ball return?

Ray

No Ray, these are fetch ball tables. Winner is generally happy to collect the balls for the loser. :-)
Hope you are able to make it.

Dragon1211, I don't know if we have ever met. We're not that far away and in the tournament I go by JoeyA so don't hesitate to say hello.

Is Mike Surber coming?

I don't want to post my photo here and scare any of the little children.

Over the weekend, I heard from a young guy over Florida way who said he was trying to get 10 people from Florida to attend. We'll see.... however we are looking forward to having a good time and some good competition.

It is a short tournament paying deep and a Calcutta for something extra and it's only a ONE DAY TOURNAMENT. We have 13 Diamond tables but will probably only use 12 for the tournament. Some of the players want to hold out one table for ring games or gambling one on one so if we don't need the table for the tournament we will keep it for gambling.

Thanks,

JoeyA

i am not sure if we have met either... when i lived in hattiesburg everyone knew me a "Dirty Mike", but since moving to the coast i have been going by "Mikey B" which personally prefer but old nicknames never die... i am not sure exactly how many people will be attending with me i know one for sure and i will check around and see if Mike is gonna make the drive over

Get on I-10 and get off on Causeway Boulevard South. Go about three miles and you will see an overpass on Causeway Blvd, get in your right hand lane and go up the overpass but take your first right at the top of the overpass. That is Highway 61 and you are only about 1/4 mile away from Buffalo Billiards. Keep the number handy 279-2137. If they are busy call me on my cell 504-343-6042 and I will guide you on in.

Tell Bobby Mac that I want to see him play. Tell him Mark Moore said he would stake Bobby against me. (just kidding) but who knows.

Take care, and practice hard. It should be lots of fun. I might be going over to Bobby Jones tomorrow to pick up a shaft from him.

seeya tomorrow!

Joey,

I have baited a friend down from Galvez with promises of raw oysters, hopefully Metairie Seafood can provide.

He hasn't played pool since he was in the navy, Viet Nam era. However he is toting a stick with a hinge in it, some cue made in the Phillipines. He said he got it off of a kid named Cesar Morales way back then just as they were putting him on the boat back home. Who knows, enough green and it might could be had.

See ya.

Cesar Morales is one of Efren's childhood friends and the moniker that Efren used in one of his early trips to the u.s. to gamble.

About forty players turned out for the tournament with a good mix in the field. I was a last minute sign-up and didn't really check names. Bobby H and Bobby Pickle were there as was Lil' John and Jamie Farrell. Weather didn't keep the guys from out of state from showing and indeed after a narrow band of nasty weather it cleared nicely, windy and cool outside.

I left with Joey still alive in the tournament and some very nice looking ribeyes almost ready to come off the grill out back. With the oysters I had for lunch, I wasn't ready for ribeye. However after a second thought I went to another seafood restaurant for you guessed it, more oysters and the best boiled shrimp I have had in years.

I'm sure Joey will give a better report later but it does seem that a good time is being had by all and the tournament is definitely a success. I didn't hear any bellyaching about anything while I was there. Well, except from the thirty-eight players wondering why they couldn't have drawn Hu!

This was my first major tournament after some most serious whittling on my back three months ago. I ran into a chainsaw in my first match and crashed and burned before my second. Hu 0-2 in his matches.

*BUMP* to BUFF for putting on a great tournament.... the horrid weather did not stop the big guns from turning out and the players coming from out of state... i drove over from Mississippi with 2 others... in addition to the other names mentioned were Eddie Brown, LIL Sal, Tall Paul, Electric Mike among others...

Joey A... thanks for a good time and we look forward to seeing all of you guys again :)

There were 46 players paying 12 people out of the 46. Eddie Brown had the winner's bracket locked up. He had knocked another favorite into the loser's bracket, Jamie Farrell who came back out of the loser's bracket to face EB. JF had to win two matches in a row in the finals to win but came up short but not after giving EB a scare, winning the first match of the finals.

For a one day tournament it seemed like it was the cat's meow but I don't know if Paul Laplace is going to be cooking 30 steaks again. It was a grueling job slaving over the grill, preparing the salads, bake potatoes and all. With 70% chance of rain, Paul had constructed a tent and additional tarp to work in the rain if necessary. He spent most of the time outside cooking and I heard many nice comments about the steaks. I think it added a nice touch to a one day tournament but think the rain may have kept a few of the hogs away from the local area this weekend.

I will give a run-down on the tournament $$wise after I review the Calcutta. After Jamie beat EB the first set in the winner bracket, I could not keep my eyes open as it was a LONG grind. The sweaters were in the thick of it. I saw MANY new faces both sweaters and players alike.

Mikey and Cecil: Thanks for coming it was nice meeting you both. Hope to see you in the future. Let me know what you would change about the tournament in the future.

Little John, came up a little short, coming in third place behind Jamie.

Hu, it was nice seeing you again. Hope the back heals better. It is tough to play well with pain.
Oh and Hu, by the way, the first buzz saw you ran into was none other than Mark Cavalier. I have witnessed him beating an IN-STROKE U.S. Open 9 Ball champion head up so it wasn't like you got slaughtered by anything less than a professional executioner.
Warm Regards,
JoeyA

Sorry Rickey. This was last year's thread/post.

We had a nice tournament. Sorry you couldn't make it. My wife asked me to do some family stuff this Saturday and I never turn her down so I didn't make it over to the tournament until late last night.

It was won by Larry Charbonnet, the straightest shooter to ever come out of Slidell, LA.
