Are 7,8 or 9 feet pool tables proportionate?

there are some home tables that have slightly different dimensions, but 99% of what you will come across in pool halls are proportioned 2:1.

imo anyone making pool tables without a 2:1 ratio, does not belong making them..................

Why is it ass-backwards? 9 ball is tougher on a 9 footer than on a barbox, and 8 ball is tougher on a barbox than it is on a 9 footer.

Seems to me like your local hall is insuring that the better players win.. Which is as it should be. :D

Russ, Point taken! I only meant they should also play 8ball on the nine footers as well as 9ball due to the congestion of 15 balls on a bar box. I always prefer playing on the nine footer as it makes the games a little harder and keeps me in stroke better. JMHO though.

You should see some of the players who play in the 8ball tourneys on the bar boxes. Their stroke is a joke (poet and didn't know it) but bar boxes are small and they do ok. Most of those keesters will never step foot on a 9 footer because they know they would play horribly.

russ and jwilliams - I stand corrected. I missed him on tv.

master: maybe the guys who excel at kicking due to learning on bar boxes are great it cuz so many bar tables feature half-dead rails, so they trained themselves to kick at the same consistent firm speed each time.

Not sure about the 'seeing the angles' thing better, maybe it's a bit easier if you're using a system to calculate ...but once you're down over the shot, you see pretty much the same stuff as when you're down facing a kick on a full table.
