Are bar tables hurting the game

There have been mechanics that say the side pocket should not be smaller than 4.75" , and if I remember right Diamond told me they run 4.75" side even with 4" corner pockets.

I've found Valley side pockets more difficult than other tables.
And now we fall into the where do you measure discussion, tit to tit, shelf edge, and wood to wood will give 3 different numbers.

When I say wood to wood I mean the rail not covered with cloth.

They might watch Pool if it was easily available to watch like the NBA, NFL, NHL or Auto Racing, but thats not the case, there is no coverage for Pool, so asking them to stream it is not the same as asking them to turn on the TV.

And none of those sports relays on streaming for revenue, they dont care about anything other than national advertisers.
Oh well, then... The day that ESPN or whomever starts putting on programming that people are not watching now for free on other platforms, and didn't watch historically when it was on ESPN, based upon what they "might" watch "if they would just do it different".. Then we're in clover, my friend!!! :D:geek::D

Bar boxes are the gateway to pool halls. Way back when, lotsa bars had tables. In my town, I could count bars that didn't have tables on one hand... Today it's the other way.

Bar box tables I would say support the pool Industry. The bulk of players play in various leagues on these tables. These are the people that spend money (and have money) on pool equipment and spend money in the locations were these tables are located. Now if these table were to change to a 9-foot table the cost to replace them would be impossible to absorb so then league would have to reduce their size accommodate the amount of table that would be available. This would decrease the amount of customer for pool industry and hospitality industry. The number of tournaments will also drop as bar box is what a lot of are played on. Reason for this is that they are easy to move around, and many are available to run these tournaments in large event centers/ Casinos. The cost of trying to supply larger tables will kill the events.

Now making Pro events on 9‘tables only may be the way to go. But I can tell you, some Pro’s like the 7’ event to help supplement their income as some of the money in these tournaments are decent and competition is not as steep as a Pro event.

So, in my opinion the 7’ table are need and are here to stay. They money that is generated from these table need to stay in the pool industry for it to be successful. The people that sell product in the industry would be greatly affected if 9’ table were the solution.

So, if the US Pro is not up to the world standard of play, he may want to make the choice to play exclusively on bigger tables to achieve his goal. The player will have to make his choice base on the goals he wants.

Exactly how many league members where you live, will watch even free streams?

Yeah, that's what I thought. Lots of amateurs like PLAYING pool while getting 4 or 5 beers down their gullet on a Wednesday night.. But will watch Nascar, NFL, NBA, NHL.. Literally ANYTHING but pool. Because pool is deadarsed boring for those who don't play well enough to understand what they are looking at.
I hosted the best pro players in the country 6 times, free to watch...almost no league players there.

Go to BCA...league players don't even watch pros.

Complete different mindset with league pool.
So barbox isn't saving pool....because ultimately it is a poor substitute. Younger players don't even know what they are missing.
