Are lifetime warranties any good?

I see both Brunswick and Olhausen offer lifetime warranties on their pool tables. I also see that most of the mechanics here do aftermarket services, whether recovering tables or tightening pockets. Does a warranty play any kind of part after purchasing a table. I guess, what I'm asking is since most of you mechanics can fix a pool table, for a cost of course. What purpose does a warranty serve, it is just junk?
 
Well for the most part any warranty damage happens during shipping, cracks and things of that nature. A warranty is really there to make you feel warm and fuzzy inside and in the event that something does happen you are protected. The lifetime warranty only works as long you keep your pool table and use the original dealer or an authorized agent to work on your pool table.

Warranties are a good way for the manufacturer to inform you that they stand behind there product. Do things happen after the initial installation, most often not, but you don't see cheap import tables with lifetime warranties. Reason being, the company couldn't make anything because half the table come in with damage.

What most of us can do also doesn't fall under what I see happen with a warranty, like a crack developing in a leg, or veneer bubbling. Look at your warranty very thoroughly though for instance Olhausen's Americana line of tables have there own bumpers, are not Accu-fast, and do not carry a lifetime warranty.

Hey Chris...FYI Olhausen stopped making the cheap cushions and now only use Accu-Fast with all their tables.:D
 
This is what I have experienced through the years on lifetime warrantees.

If they are prorated everything is based on a really inflated suggested retail price. Ex Years ago I bought some tires at Sears. They were on sale and I paid $18. 9 months later the tire failed. It was going to cost me $26 for a replacement. I complained that it cost me on $18 originally. Was told that the tire was on sale at that time and the warrantee is based on the suggested retail price.

Also have a lifetime warrantee on a hot tub. That included labor and parts. Was told now that it has changed. I have to pay a service charge but the labor and parts are "free".

There are always loop holes and everything is written so the consumer reads more into it in than there really is. After you get burned it becomes apparent that it is exactly as written and not what you thought. If that makes any sense.

Billiard Tables
Brunswick Billiards (“Brunswick”) hereby warrants that its billiards tables will be free from defects in materials and workmanship for the life of the table. The lifetime warranty is effective for all Brunswick Billiard table purchases as long as the table is owned by the original owner (“Owner”), and manufactured after January 1998.

Centennial® and Heritage® Billiard Balls
Brunswick warrants that its Centennial and Heritage billiards balls will be free from defects in materials and workmanship for the life of the balls, as long as the balls are owned by the original Owner.

Master Stroke™ and Centennial® Cues
Brunswick warrants that its Master Stroke and Centennial cues will be free from defects in materials and workmanship for one (1) year from the date of purchase as long as the product is owned by the original Owner.

Other Cues, Lights, Air Hockey®, and Foosball Tables
Brunswick warrants that all other cues, lights, Air Hockey tables and foosball tables will be free from defects in materials and workmanship for 90 days from the date of purchase as long as the product is owned by the original Owner.

Cloth
Brunswick warrants that its cloth will be free from defects in materials and workmanship for one (1) year from the date of installation. Friction marks on the cloth occur naturally over time with regular play and are therefore not covered by the terms of this Warranty.

Centennial® Cloth
Brunswick warrants that its Centennial Cloth shall maintain reasonable stain resistance for one (1) year from the date of purchase as long as the product is owned by the original Owner. A stain is considered unreasonable if the liquid includes any traces of grease or if it is left on the cloth 20 minutes or longer.

Brunswick agrees to (at its discretion) repair, replace, or refund the cost of any and all parts determined by Brunswick to be defective, either in material or workmanship, with no charge to the Owner.

Brunswick is not required to and will not replace the entire table, piece of furniture or product. To request warranty service under the terms of this Warranty, the Owner must contact an authorized Brunswick Billiards dealer. To obtain the name of the authorized Brunswick Billiards dealer nearest you, please consult your local Yellow Pages, access our dealer directory online at www.brunswickbilliards.com or call us toll-free at 800-336-8764.

This Warranty is subject to the conditions and limitations set forth below. In no case shall Brunswick be liable for any special, incidental or consequential damages for breach of the Warranty or any implied Warranty. Some states do not allow the exclusion of incidental or consequential damages, so the limitation may not apply to you. This Warranty gives you specific legal rights, and you may also have other rights which vary from state to state.

The warranty does not apply to: (a) normal wear and tear; (b) yellowing of billiard balls; (c) defects or damage due to accident, alteration, abuse, misuse, dropping, natural disaster, neglect, or failure to provide reasonable and necessary maintenance; (d) demonstration tables, furniture or product, floor samples (unless proven structurally defective, the definition of which does not include nicks, dents, scratches, gouges and flaws resulting from daily wear and tear due to being a floor sample or resulting from disassembly and reassembly of the floor sample), pre-owned products (other than as expressly set forth herein) and non-commercial tables used in an institutional or commercial setting; (e) bed cloth, pockets, and cushion rubber (unless proven defective, in which case Brunswick Billiards shall provide a replacement to Owner, the installation of which shall be the responsibility of Owner); (f) tables, and/or components that have been installed or repaired by parties other than Brunswick or an authorized Brunswick dealer or agent; and (g) damages exceeding the cost of the table, furniture, or product. Brunswick makes no warranty, express or implied (including any implied warranty of merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose) other than those expressly set out in this Warranty. Oral or written statements made by Brunswick dealers, distributors, agents, or sales representatives that are inconsistent with this Warranty are not certified by Brunswick and have no force or effect.

No action arising out of any claimed breach of warranty may be brought more than one (1) year after the cause of action has accrued.

OLHAUSEN BILLIARD MANUFACTURING, INC. (Olhausen®) warrants its billiard, pocket billiard (pool) and snooker tables (Products) against defects in material or workmanship (excluding normal wear and tear). Olhausen, in its sole discretion, will either repair or replace any and all parts proven to be defective. Excluded are any Products sold or used for commercial purposes. This Lifetime Warranty is subject only to the limitations as set forth below.

This Lifetime Warranty is non-transferable and only applies to the initial purchaser of the Product (Owner) from Olhausen or an Olhausen Authorized Dealer or Agent. Cloth, pockets, and non-Accu-Fast® cushions are not covered by this Lifetime Warranty. This Lifetime Warranty is void if the Product is not installed and serviced by Olhausen or its Authorized Dealer or Agent. Any claim under this Lifetime Warranty must be made through Olhausen or its Authorized Dealer or Agent.

Parts returned hereunder shall be shipped by conventional surface freight to Olhausen pre-paid. If the parts are determined by Olhausen, in its sole discretion, to be defective, they will be repaired or replaced and returned pre-paid by conventional surface freight carrier. The cost of shipping (as provided herein) the Product to Olhausen shall be reimbursed as well. The labor cost for removing or replacing the damaged part shall be paid by Olhausen or its Authorized Dealer or Agent. If the claim occurs more than one year from the date of original purchase, shipping costs shall be the responsibility of the Owner.

Repairs or replacement of any defective parts shall constitute complete fulfillment of all obligations with respect to the Product. This Lifetime Warranty does not require the replacement of the entire billiard, pocket billiard or snooker table.

Olhausen's exclusive "Made in the U.S.A." Accu-Fast cushions are included in most but not all of the Products. This Lifetime Warranty includes Accu-Fast cushions. Olhausen shall pay for all shipping costs incurred with respect to any Accu-Fast cushion claim approved as provided for herein.

THIS WARRANTY IS IN LIEU OF ALL OTHER WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING THE IMPLIED WARRANTY OF MERCHANTABILITY OR FITNESS OR USAGE FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE. Olhausen neither assumes nor authorizes any persons to assume for Olhausen any other obligation or liability in connection with the Products. This Lifetime Warranty does not apply to damage resulting from accident, alteration, misuse, abuse, flood, fire, earthquake or any other natural calamity.
