I’ve watched nearly 50 hours of snooker and understand basic scoring. But when things get a bit tight I’m at a loss. As time goes on things get weirder for me. I’ve studied the rules but sometimes things just need to transpire visually to relate to what’s going on
The spectators respect and knowledge of this game as awesome . People are actually watching and not on their phones.
I’m thinking if everyone was more like the crowd watching snooker the world would be a better place

For YouTube stuff, go to Barry Stark's channel and search on rules. He has explanations of many situations.

If you would like a basic book -- the one I learned from about 60 years ago -- get Richard Holt's "Billiards and Snooker". There have been a few rule changes since then, mostly the "foul and a miss" rule. I think you can get this book for under $10 delivered.

thanks Bob ,

I’m able to digest a lot more now, not everything but it’s a much more complex game than any other game of billiards that I’ve ever tried to learn.
Oddly the commentators that are generally annoying ( 9 ball) are actually helpful in snooker.
So far nearly all the matches I’ve watched don’t have any commentary. Those referees really earn their money.

If you can find him on old matches, one of the best commentators was Clive Everton. He was also a player (mostly billiards?), an author, and a historian.

One of the very best snooker YouTube channels is

who edits matches down to the best parts and adds a lot of info. Sadly, he has not posted any video for nine months.

Check prices at AddAll.com for Holt's book.

Or find it at World of Books.

There are pricier copies at Powell's Books, which is a great place to visit if you're ever in Portland, OR.
Portland has fewer snooker tables than it used to, but I hope the ones I have listed are still there.

Barry is an absolute gem!!! 🙏🏼😍🤩🫡

I watch a lot of snooker, for me it’s much more interesting that pool. And I don’t know the players. Yet in pool I know most of the guys out there-some of the young guys I haven’t met.

The production quality of snooker is first rate!
