Are you a banger, or are you a serious player?

Well, I can't help but think it works kinda like this:

Really, though, I think it is as simple as, a "player" is *into* pool, and simply wants to get better and play often, whereas a banger occasionally plays pool, and doesn't really care how well they play. Often these "bangers" do indeed bang the ball around the table. They often have no awareness of basic pool etiquette.

Your description of yourself makes you sound like a player. I really can't imagine a "banger" reaching any sort of B level.

Not a banger but not a serious player. A B by most standards but can play like an A when I catch a gear

I guess everyone has a different definition of "serious player" too, because I don't know how someone can become a B and play like a A occasionally without taking the game seriously.

It takes a lot of practice, experience and knowledge to get to that level.

My definition of banger is low skill and serious player would be highly skilled.

In terms of my approach to the game, yes I take it seriously and practice.

Bangers don't play position. They don't consider any shot but the one their facing at the time. If you're posting in a pool forum, you're probably not a banger.

That is pretty much what I was going to say, if you see someone take ball in hand in 9 ball with the 1 at one end rail and the 2 on the other, and it's a straight in shot they lined up, you are playing a "banger".

If they talk about pool players with their friends and the only two names you hear is "The Black Widow" (no real name) and "Minnesota Fats" (also no real name), you ran across a banger.

My favorite all time conversation I heard was Player A "what is chalk for anyway". Player B, clearly being more experienced with playing "well, you see how it falls on the table when you chalk, it's there to season the cloth so it plays better over time". I'd say that was two "bangers".

I actually view someone who can make OK shots and play basic position but does it with the grace of a rhino and misses oddly easy shots yet can make a bank here and there a banger also. They just happened to get better by playing the wrong way for a long time.
