As of 2007,I've played Apa only once a week,,stopped playing altogether end of spring

So I go visit,,but leave my sticks at home..I think Leagues are great,,
good way to meet new people,,,an you never know,,some of the people are truely
amazing..

I've taken a brief time off, but still dropped by to see people that I've met over the years and also hoped there'd be somebody to play! :D

Right now.. promised a couple of friends I'd play if they got a team together.. which they reminded me I would - so I've got my old Tuesday night APA 8/9 going again, sucks that I'm the only 9 at the moment in that division.. talk about a walking target. My girlfriend's team started back up after the summer, but the higher ranked person isn't playing.. I said I'd fill in here and there.. so now I've got Monday night APA 8/9, too.. good practice, as many of their bars changed to Diamonds. I've got BCA(PL:p) at the pool hall on Thursdays for a few more weeks, but have been badgered by some friends into joining them at a bar with Diamonds to qualify together for an 8b team for the Spring.

On top of all that, I plan on joining the 14.1 league starting on the 23rd. Fortunately, that league allows you to schedule your own matches so that you can even play multiple the same day. You also get free table time at the hall. I never thought I'd be happy not to play as much on an APA team as a 7/9, but right now it should keep the cost down a little and keep me from burning out. I'm going to try to make it to Vegas for APA singles, but plan on taking the summer off from leagues and concentrate on tournaments for a little bit.. we'll see if that plan holds. :o

Played league for a few years many years ago. If I go out to play pool, I want to play pool. Not sit there all night watching others play. Especially when half of them don't even care.

Ditto.....

Stumbled onto a good BCA league ...

I accidently became a league player again. A while back I filled in as a sub for a friend. After a while, I was adopted by the other team members. I come to find out this league was really well run and the folks in it are real nice.

I had my reservations about joining full time since I don't play much on the bar box, and I don't shoot 8-ball at all. But I started playing and been having a good time since.

Last season I joined a team that usually finishes at the bottom of the standings. They happened to be closest to my home, so I figured, why not? So now I'm watching plenty of C-level pool, and actually enjoying it. But these guys aren't just showing up on league night just to hang out - they're serious about improving their pool game. So these fellas are picking my brain to learn all they can from this old has-been.

I didn't think it would happen, but I'm a league player again.

2 in-house leagues and 1 city-wide bar league. 1 is 9 ball, the other 2 are both 8 ball. The 2 in-house leagues are handicapped, the city wide is not handicapped. I'm more or less indifferent on the league topic. It's just another avenue to play pool.

Banks

I'll return at some point,,,I'd have no real problem finding a team.

I promised a friend I'd play one more time with him at the coast.

I'm still a 5/5,,I practice with 6,7,8's an one guys a double A player,
so my racking skills are coming along...
don't shake near as much anymore,,,just kidding.

14.1 league sounds interesting,an fun,,,or could be frustrating..lol.
I'm not any good with that game, but I still play once in a while.
I play banks,or one pocket more often.
Hey have a good week end.

i have played in a bca masters 8 ball league a few years ago, i had fun, 2 hours and we were done and it was run out or get run out. I have watched my wife play in a B league and it takes them 4 hours to finish. Hard to watch lol

Stagnant currently.

I used to play in leagues ,won the Pittsburgh 9Ball Championship in 2010,but then got a new job, and there's no leagues in my area that have weekend leagues ,so I've had a 2yr hiatus from leagues..

I'm sure one day, or another I'll get back in it, but honestly the payout is chump change, and the only real gain is status quot ..

Don't like all the smoke and most time they never started on time. Had to wait for some jerk that knew what time the league was to start when he signed up but can't make starting time because of some reason or he just wants people to wait on him to make him feel important. Also when I did try there were too many guys on most of the teams that wanted to use league night to get out of the house and get drunk. Not for me.---Smitty

You don't shoot 8-ball but your name is 8ballEinstein?!? What am I missing here?

Tell me about it. The next closest in my division is a couple of 7's, so I usually am giving up a pretty massive spot. It's enough to make it tough for me to win if my opponent is playing well for their skill level or if I am a bit off. I just lost to one of those 7's this week. I couldn't do anything right for the first 4 racks and he was getting out pretty easily, so I went down 35-5. Managed to pull myself together well enough to make the final ball count 58-55, but that's still a 14-6 win for him. Ouch.

I think there are a lot of 9's, and probably even 8's, that are the only ones in their division. Even though SL9 encompasses everything from strong B players on up, there still aren't that many people that fall into that category relative to the number of players in APA, and there are even fewer that play in the APA. It's not for everyone, and the APA really caters to the lower end of the spectrum because that's most of their clientele.

We only have one 8 and two 7's in our division, but its just six teams, so that's a decent representation, methinks

not anymore

I started in my first league that was called WIN! You competed for MONEY not trophies. I was a NINE(9). I had to win 9 games of eight(8) ball to win my match. Another guy and I were the two(2) best players on the team. So, one of us usually played last. In fact, it was usually me. I was usually playing against an 8 or a 9. They were not quick matches. I generally got home at about 4:30 in the morning & had to go to work for 9:00. After a couple of sessions it got to be too much as I was married & we had just had a baby as well. I gave it up, but not from any pressure from my wife as she was, no is, a Champion Pitcher, so she understood.

After many years away from league, a bartender I knew was looking for a player & told me that the highest handy cap was a 7 and that they were almost always finished by 1:30, at the latest. I started back. I wound up playing on 4 different teams in two different leagues, APA & BCA. I won trophies for the most run outs numerous times & lost MVP's to a Pro who would barely qualify while I played every week. I could not hardly keep up with what rules I was playing on what night. Again it was too much. I gradually got out one by one.

I almost got into a hall one pocket & 8 ball house league this past session & I think I will do it next session after I brush up on my one pocket.

I would never play in an APA again. I might consider a BCA. What would be better is if the rules could be combined & get rid of the bad ones from both, but that will never happen.

Sorry for the long winded rant, but you asked for an explanation.
I guess I could of just said fatigue, but that would not have been as informative.

English,

Which BCAPL rules do you want to get rid of? Been playing league for nearly twenty years. Like the rules package just as it is! Always room for improvement though. JMHO.

I play on 2 leagues for the oppertunity to shoot against opponents, I am off the beaten path and nearest pool hall is 1 hour away, I dont mind bar tables, I have a 9 ft. table in basement to play all I want to on, I just wish it was easier to find some opponents to play on my table. I just found out that one of the pool halls has weekly 9 ball tournaments, I plan on playing some of those as time permits.
