Hemi, I know a couple of guys from Il., Wouldn't be talking about Jeff would you. Steve is a great player with a lot of knowledge and I consider him a good friend. I wish I could have traveled with him some when he was playing all the time.
As far as a satellite goes it might be worth the trip if you traveled with Steve, you probably play a pretty good or at least have a lot of knowledge about matching up. Who knows I may close my business and go on the road. HA HA Sam

Yes, on the first guess, wow. Now, as far as my playing ability? Totally true story Sam. Steve, his wife Linda at the time and I had just made a score in Hattiesburg, MS and had come back to Jackson. We were in a local bar and this local was giving Steve the 7 ball. When it's over, the guy didn't even WANT the 7, lol. The guy quits Steve and says he will play me some. The guy and I had played a few times and other than local tournaments I had allways beaten the guy. Steve asked me if I could beat the guy, Steve never having seen me play, and I said yes. So he and I crank it up. I win the flip and put a 3 pack on the guy. I come over and sit down by Steve and ask, well, how do you think I play now? Steve says, you really want to know? I say, sure. Steve says, you play casual position and it's going to get you in trouble playing someone who can play. Talk about busting a guys bubble. I figure I'm playing perfect and this guy, who I need the break and some low ball from, tells me I play casual position. I take it off though.
I knew what Steve meant though. Later he said I needed to draw a circle in my mind the size of a quarter and put the cue ball in that circle. I tried to do that since........And, yes in the 70s it was the state of Miss. But then again, there wern't 100 players in the state, LOL.
I might be prone to say state, but like someone said...there may be lots of little town players that barely change locations or play in larger tourneys that could give me the 5 out & the breaks.
Hemi, Steve is like that to everyone. He thinks because he can play that pinpoint position, everyone should. Are you top 100? Give me a first name and I'll tell Steve hi for you, I'll see him at the Valley state next week. Did you hear the story about Steve getting arrested at the Kentucky Derby for bank robbery a long time back. Sam
Hemi did you ever play David Cantrel at Court street billiards. His dad owned it and David ran it. He would beat Jack and Mike any day for any amount. Mike usually wouldn't play him for any kind of spot. If he didn't like the bottle so much he could have been on the pro tour probably. Couch used to come in and they would play 9 ball on the snooker table with regular balls now that was a game. I learned how to play from these guys for a few years while I still lived there. It help me make ends meet after getting married in colledge. I could make as much money shooting in the local bar tournaments around Hattiesburg as I could working. HA HA. On of the funniest things I ever saw at court street was this guy from Cleveland MS came in and wanted to challenge David. Well David had had a rough night and really didn't want to play but the guy wouldn't shut up. So they matched up for $1000 per game 9ball. The only condition was David wanted first break. Well he proceded to break and run 13 racks in a row which busted the guy from Cleveland. He looked funny as he walked out having dropped $13000 without taking a shot. HA HA

When Jimmy Reid was a kid and had just started playing top speed, he made a trip from New York to New Orleans. On that trip he booked only one loser. That was in Starkville, Miss. to the son of the owner of a pool room there by the name of Ben Katz. Ben and Reed Pierce are the two best "9 ball" players born in the state of Miss. Ben is at least 20 years older than Reed. I have heard the name David Cantrel but it sounds more like a Ben Katz story.
I havent been playing for long though. Hopefully I will get better
