I heard that Arizona tournaments have a multiple entry fee offering.

An example;
$25 for the tournament,
$45 for the tournament and 2nd pot,
$55 for the tournament, 2nd pot and final pot.

anyone know more details?

I would like to see some of the results for this type of entry fee offering.
 
We got what they call "side pots", and the person finishing the best who is in say the $5.00 side-pot get all the $5.00 side pot money. So if 7 put 5 bucks, in the 5 buck side-pot the 35 would go to the best finisher.

I have seen Tournaments with a 5, 10, and 25 buck side posts. If the Tournament winner was in all side pots they would clean up.

I NEVER have done a side-pots.

A lot of the tournaments have what they call a 'side pot' which any player can partake in addition to regular entry fee. The pot goes to the highest finisher in the pot. Some of the larger tournaments have multiple pots...like a $10, $20, etc. and each work as above. Enter all pots and get all the monies or first for all the monies or not and just get the regular prize.

From what I have heard, the side pot came about due the calcutta being illegal. I think I heard this watching one of the Arizona classic videos.
 
In the Desert Classic Tour events, we have $10, $20, and $40 side-pots. We also have a $20 side-pot in which only 8-rated players and below can participate. They are optional, and are in addition to the tournament entry fee. They typically pay 3 or 4 spots, depending on the number of people participating. The side-pots sprung up about the time that calcutta's were deemed illegal here in AZ. Prior to that, most of the tournaments had calcutta's; even some of the weekly tournaments.

Also, not all of us here in AZ view everything that costs a dollar as a negative. In fact, many people really like the side-pot idea and participate regularly!

To actually get in a side pot you would have to actually come out and play in a tournament somewhere.

I am not sure how secret tournaments are run but almost every tournament I play in offers a side pot. Most of the weekly tourneys offer a $5 sidepot. The monthly ones usually offer more.

Hey Lenny,

I am not playing anywhere until my ear infection goes away. I can't hear out of my right ear. I am hoping it clears up by this weekend. I went to the Doc yesterday and got some meds. I played some pool on Monday and felt way off balance.

If you are referring to the Az Desert Classic Tour...then this is how it works.
$40 membership fee=gets you tour card for 2008 and is put into payout at end of year tourny
$50 entry fee per each tourny-there are 8 this year
side pots are optional
$10
$20
$40
side pots are payed out according to players getting in them

I DO put it to use but I was hoping that you would. It would be nice to see you playing at a tournament sometime. I have wanted to play against you for a while now. Maybe you could let me know where the secret tourneys that you play in are at so we can play against each other. Or I could just sit behind my computer all day, ***** about shit and never actually do anything. How is that working out for you anyways?

This is one of those "The rest of the story"

The calcutta has always been illegal...(I think it is in most states)

It used to be treated like jay walking...nobody cared.

There used to be some real good calcuttas back when Casino Billiards was open...Way bigger than any sidepots could produce.

Rumor has it that someone "thought" someone dumped or had a corporation going with another player and 1 player bought half and 1 player didn't...(of course you know which player would win)

Anyway...This person that felt that it was his/her obligation to complain to the liquer board about this terrible illegal activity taking place in Arizona Pool rooms......And thus the days of Calcuttas in this town were over.........and the side pot was born.
 
They did have some GREAT calcuttas at Casino Billiards! Made for a lot of fun for players and rail birds alike.

I do not understand what Calcuttas are, but they are alive and well in Montana.

I do not play in "secret tourneys, you need only look in the Arizona Billiards Info to find Tournments West of 1-17, and start you hunt there. If you are nice to FAST LENNY, maybe he will tell where to look.:)
