Fast Eddies in Springfield is the place for day time
action.
Hey, is Bobby Hawk still playing in the daytime at Springfield at Fast Eddie's? He'd be a good sparring partner for my room mate, who needs some practice. I can't find Bobby's phone number.
Virginia has quite a few pool rooms to play in. QuietCoolGuy is giving good advice about going to Richmond. They have two EXCELLENT pool rooms, Southern pool rooms, and they don't come any better than that.
There are some weekly $20 and $25 entry fee 9-ball tournaments in Maryland and Virginia, just about every day of the week.
Thursdays, of course, you should definitely attend First Break Cafe in Sterling, Virginia, for their weekly 9-ball tournament, beginning around 8:00 p.m. Out of all the pool rooms in the entire Metro D.C. area, this one is the best as far as a "real" pool room atmosphere, IMHO. It is action friendly, and I'm sure Young Gun Brandon Shuff will show you around. Don't play him on the front table, though, with the extremely tight pockets. Brandon seems to shoot extremely well on this table.

Monday, a little bit of a drive from Virginia, but Bill and Billy's in Arnold, Maryland is the place to be. No alcohol, smoking allowed, and excellent equipment, well maintained. I think it's a 9-ball tournament there, beginning sharply at 7:30 p.m. It gets a pretty good crowd, from what I hear.
Tuesdays, in Laurel, Maryland, which is a little bit of a drive for you, is the $20-entry-fee 9-ball tournament. Danny Green, Black Henry, White Max, and MANY local players come to Side Pockets. No smoking, alcohol, loud music, and some tough tournament competition. It actually a great tournament!

Side Pockets is about 3 miles off I-95 towards Baltimore, and the exit is Route 198 (towards Laurel). It's a easy drive, plenty of parking.
Wednesdays, of course, is Rockville, Maryland, at Orange Ball. Parking is limited, so get there early. The tourney starts at 7:30 p.m. This is probably the best weekly tournament as far as players, and believe me, you never know who is going to show up. I've seen Ryan McCreesh, Spanish Rob, Tom-Tom, Parks, UPA Member Mike Davis, and occasional cameo appearances by Keith McCready show up at this one. Excellent viewing for railbirds, full menu and bar, no smoking.
Sunday, Top Hat Billiards in Baltimore, Maryland. It's at least an hour or more from Virginia, but it's a nice quiet-type pool room on Sundays. Very laid back. $25 entry fee, 9-ball. You can get played there (action) if you look hard enough!
Welp, that's about it for the D.C. Metro Area. Not too much in the way of action, but there's a lot of opportunities to compete with players of all caliber. I guess you know that the main regional tour around these parts is Tiger/Planet Pool Tour --
http://www.pool-tour.com. It's usually happening on weekends, and it's a good way for you to meet-and-greet with the local pool scene.
