ArnotQ: Pulled the Trigger

I've finally pulled the trigger on an everyday player. One Of the criteria was to be able to have played a cue closely approximating the cue I Would order....which eliminated some very good cuemakers ( Sly, Josey, etc..). I ended up choosing between a Dzurickey, which, after some great feedback was able to try, a Dayton (nice hit), a Frey SP, a Neighbors and a Schon. But a few nights ago I was able to play with an cue made by Arnot Wadsworth. WOW!
Besides having some of the best wood and workmanship, rivalling any of the cues I've come across, the playability was excellent. It had a Terminator3 laminated shaft that felt like no other low deflection shaft I've played......an absolutely solid feel and precise hit. The taper was Arnot's standard (parabolic). It was comfortable and pretty stiff. The radial pin joint was extremely tight as well. Overall the hit was great. Very solid while deflection seemed very low. After playing with a. 314 for a couple of years now, I was really able to appreciate a shaft that is solid all the way through. It hit like a premium conventional shaft.
Now I see why Arnot's cues don't seem to hit the used market much. Everybody keeps them.
The cue I tried was a plain Jane variety with a beautiful piece of purple heart and a BEM wrap area.
The cue I ordered is similar. I ordeded a wrapless PH (seasoned 6 years ) with a highly figured BEM handle with an ivory/ PH joint inlay within twin silver rings and a micarta Hopper ring. It will be 19.5 oz with a 12.75 mm Kamui black (Med) tip. Two additional niceties are an 8 week build time and an extremely reasonable price. It is Cue #811 on Arnot's excellent website. I'll post the pics when I receive the cue. If it is as nice as the cue I just tried......what a bargain.

Here are the pictures of your new cue:

ArnotQ Purple Heart / Bird's Eye Maple Wrapless

UThe thread I started about the PH /BEM wrapless that I ordered has had a lot of great feedback and I've received some pm's about my choice...mostly from others, like me, who were lookong for an everyday player that played as well as ANYTHING out there. And I tried to give as much info as possible about my decision to go with an Arnot Wadsworth cue. Other players with much more experience with customs cues chiimed in with great information on Arnot's cues, his workmanship and the performance, especially with Arnot's version of a low deflection shaft, the Terminator 3. Well, I got a call from Arnot Wadsworth today letting me know that the cue was completed. He also told me he was able to put an especially nice piece of bird's eye maple in the wrap section of the purple heart cue. He then offered to provide AZ forums with several pics of the completed cue. If you take a look at the post above you'll probably understand why I went with an ArnotQ custom. The handle wood just blew me away. The highly figured bird's eye maple just jumps off the cue. And the color and deeply dark grain of the purple heart looks superb. I have always considered the wood to be the main focal point of a cue and I haven't seen a better combination of this increasingly popular wood scheme with any other maker....bar none. And even though the T-3 shaft isn't shown, the three T-3's I've seen / played are all beautifully done. As soon as I receive the cue and have played enough go give a decent review, I will do so. But just seeing that beautiful bird's eye maple wrap section Arnot so modestly called 'nice' I am confident that this beauty will exceed all expectations.
Many I'd the pm's I've received were players, who, like me, were looking at new cues from prime makers or used cues from the Scruggs, Omens, Judd's, etc.. And although I haven't tried all of them, I can say that the ArnotQ hit is as distinctive as his workmanship and materials. I am anxious to play this beauty and give an opinion of the cube's performance. The only changes I made are choosing the SaberT ferrule with a Moori III soft tip. This tip / ferrule combination was on the older purple heart ArnotQ that sold me on the cue , so I figured why ness with what I know is a good combination for me. Hopefully, by next week I'll have played enough to give a credible review.
