"Keeping an ancient game alive: Bob Byrne creates a billiards tournament in Dubuque"

http://www.thonline.com/article.cfm?id=285817

A quote from the article:

"It's being kept alive similar to how monks kept the Bible alive in the Year 400," cracked Bob Byrne, a Dubuquer, member of the Billiards Hall of Fame and author of "Byrne's Standard Book of Pool Billiards" and "Byrne's Wonderful World of Pool and Billiards." "It's an elegant and a beautiful game, and if you play it well, you're no longer interested in anything else."

The tournament is also mentioned at the following site (and undoubtedly others as well):

Great writeup int the article Rethunk posted, Tom. But did you video any of the tournament, per Deek-A-MoM requestzzzzz???

Sorry, we didn't have a camera. Mine was in use and couldn't bring it. It may have been distracting in this room if I did have one.

They'll be more tourneys besides the annual Open, it was discussed. We'll figure it out.

By the way the Masons are offering a "Sporting Membership" for $100/year. Anyone near Dubuque or that travels there should consider it. There's 3 9' pool tables also in the room that match the carom tables.
