Would be a real win if we could get pool into the schools and universities on mass scale like they are doing in Asia and Europe....

What would it take? I know some AZers are working on it in different parts of the country. Whats been the biggest hurdles to overcome and what advice and wisdom can be imparted from the attempts?

There are no problems getting school administrators to agree to it. There are no problems getting the industry to step up and donate equipment. I have also found plenty of success getting people to volunteer to help.

The biggest problem that a billiards club has in a school is a place for tables. Schools districts view vacant campus space as a financial liability and often close campuses that have empty rooms. In an age of school budget cuts its hard to have a room. I count myself lucky in this regard.

You can't have a school activity in a room that is primarily a bar. You have to have a room where booze and smoke are not present. If you can get a beer and smoke free room then you can fill it up with high school students. There are plenty of kids out there that aren't involved with anything.

Bottom line is if you have a room all else is easy to do.

Actually there are HS classes at Hardtimes in Sac., now and have been for some time. Beer is served here, but has never been an issue with the districts. So it may be possible for others.

To reply to your title, it just no mystery the gap is going to get wider and wider too. They scour for and nurture talent, we ignore and scoff at it. But hey, other than that, everything is great here.
