Young Reyes joinsdad in Asian 9-ball

The Philippine Star 02/24/2004

Six players including Frennie Reyes, son of Efren "Bata" Reyes, will represent the Philippines in the opening leg of the 2004 Asian 9-Ball Tour in Singapore this weekend.

The young Reyes joined the team led by his father and Francisco "Django" Bustamante at the invitation of tournament organizer ESPN which want "some interesting angle for TV," Frennie being the son of a famous player.

The other members of the Philippine team are Warren Kiamco, who qualified on the basis of his second place finishes in the Singapore and Philippine legs of the Asian Tour last year, and Lee Van Corteza and Antonio Gabica, who won the elimination tournament among the country’s top 16 players last week.

Frennie, 20, is in his second year in Computer Science at Holy Angel College in Angeles City. He started playing pool only three years ago. "It’s just a sport for him," his father Efren said, "We want him to finish college and pursue profession."

The team, accompanied by Reyes’ manager Rolly Vicente, flies to Singapore on Thursday, Feb. 26. Puyat Sports President Aristeo "Putch" Puyat follows the next day to attend the tournament on Feb. 28-29.

The next legs of the Asian Tour are: Vietnam - March 14-15; Hong Kong -April 17-18; Taiwan — May 7-9; Philippines — May 29-30.

Would AZBilliards cover these events? I hope we get updates as they happen. :) Any word on how good this Frennie is? He's going to have a lot of weight on his shoulders; everyone would naturally expect him to carry on his father's legacy.....

I'll be watching it live this weekend. The good thing is, the ticket didnt cost anything as long as you are a member at that pool hall. I'll try to post an update daily. Frennie took up pool just 3 years ago. Efren wants him to finish his studies first and take up a different profession.

It will be shown live on Star Sports here
in the Philippines, maybe i could arrange someone
to record it for me. I am not assuring it though
coz our VHS player (DVD and VCD is whas it is
in here) recording feature might not be working.
It will be shown here first this
Sunday (GMT+8) live at about 7:00pm here in the philippines
on a cable channel of course.

I believe the color system in Singapore is not NTSC.
Only US, Mexico and the Philippines are on NTSC, I believe.
Jeesh, I'd like some vids too and am willing to trade vids.

From what I know, as long as your TV is a multisystem, you should be able to watch any color system. I have been buying videos in the Philippines and have no problem watching it here in Singapore.

No worries, I'll tape the whole thing. It's NTSC here.
