Hi Keith. I'm taking the liberty in starting a thread that will have questions answered by a credible persona in real life. Hope you don't mind...

My question to you is : Is Efren an internationally overrated or underrated Pro? And why?

Efren is far from being over-rated. As far as I'm concerned, he's one of the best players that ever lived. The one thing strong about Efren is that he can play all games, where certain players just have one game. Efren is the total package.

I could think of a lot easier players to play in a tournament besides Efren. His track record speaks for itself. Don't kid yourself. Efren is a great player.

I agree with "The Keither", anyone who thinks Efren has been over-rated has spent too much time out in the gardern without their sunhat!

Keith, do you think Efren is a better all around player than Shannon Daulton? If so, why?

A good way to find that out is to ask Shannon if he would play Efren some 9-ball, banks, 10-ball, rotation, and one-pocket. The only game I think Shannon could beat him at is banks, and he still doesn't have like it. I don't believe Shannon would play Efren even, them other games. I'm sure if he was smart enough, he would ask for a spot.

Hi Keith,

How strong is Efren's straight pool game?

(um, are you laughing?)

:)

Thank you Keith.

Who among the young players now do you think are the sturdy ones in their total packaging in tournaments and the toughies in money games?

There's Corey, Alex, Alcano, Yang, Hsia, Thosrsten, Rodney, Charlie, Hewitt, Van den Berg, Feijen, etc.

I know that they will have to prove themselves through time, but can you give your fearless forecast of the budding greats?

I look at it like this .A true all around play is someone who can do it all >And do it well. Some of the young gun .Are just cap guns .I see it like this the younger players now a day are to cockey. And that is what kills them .Look a Cory D .ok WHAT happend to him.In 2001 he was the kid to beat .And now he back to become the stone u have to step on to get to the sec round. All the play on this list i know about 4 of them and the only one some far look to becomeing a good all around player( 1-hole 14.1 9-ball banks? rotation )Is the kid Thosrsten..But we'll see in time .You saw Cory and now you don't. What a tricky GAME POOL IZ...

Tension busters

Keith,

What are some of the things you and some of the other pros do to break the tension during a match.

Ex.- Vivian Villareal's whistling/talking to the crowd.

Im tired of all this shannon daluton is better or as good as an all-around player as Efren there is noway, has shannon won a world class 8-ball title. 9ball title or straight pool title? Unless im wrong i dont think so. If the races were long and both players were at the top of there game Efren would win hands down!!!!

Most of the pros have something in them that makes them tick during a match. I like to have fun when I play. It makes me be a little looser rather than being tight. It sort of takes the edge off of the nervousness from all the people watching you and other people talking about you.

Every pro has their own demeanor and breaks the tension in some different way. Nickie likes to chew gum. I enjoy my Budweiser. Vivian whistles. Buddy likes to slow-walk. Earl will get that real intensive-looking face on him. Alex likes to mingle with the crowd. Jeremy cleans his shaft between shots. I guess we all have our own little rituals, and whatever works, works.

The bottom line is this. Whatever bothers you the most, you have to try to block it out, and whatever makes you tick the most, you go for it.

Earthquake, let me start by saying...You 'da man! There was some talk on this forum a while ago that you were working on a book. If this is true, can you give us an idea of when it would be available. I'll be first in line to buy a copy. thanks

Well i'm not the only person who thinks this. In fact, accu-stats announcer Bill Incardona said that he thinks that "maybe Shannon Daulton is the best all around player in the game today," and anyone who keeps up with the game at all knows that Shannon has won World Class One-Pocket tournaments (Legends of One Pocket Titles Four Times). He has also won a world bank pool title. He has won the world class Lexington All Star 9-Ball Tournament on numerous occasions. He has also won the 9-Ball tournament at the Derby City Classic for the last two years. Anyone who thinks Shannon hasnt won World Class Titles in numerous disciplines hasn't been keeping up with pool. He has a winning lifetime record against Efren in both 9-Ball, One-Pocket and bank pool. Okay maybe he isnt as good as Efren but he beats him more than Efren beats him. If you look back at AZ billiards match records you can see for yourself.

First, that is a very interesting statistic. However, would you like to put the $up for Shannon to play EReyes a variety of games every day for a month? (Actually, I will go in with you, or against you. I would love to see it and I have an extra $20...!).

And B, anyone from AZBilliards listening? sounds like a great idea for a new section. "Efren vs. the World"!

Anthony, where is Shannon Daulton? I haven't seen him around lately and was wondering how he's doing.

Keith, I'm sure you've played many players over the years who are never going to be recognized by the professional pool community. Who are some of your most memorable?

Also, Have you ever been through Chattanooga, TN?

Ever play a man named Vernon Ellis?

I do remember a guy by the name of Vernon Elliott, BazookaJoe. He was a real good banker and a real good bar table player. I think he was from Kentucky. I was over there in Knoxville when the World's Fair was going on, and Vern snuck up on me and broke me. He was a real nice guy, but when you played him on the table, he had a lot of bull dog in him.
