"ask The Pros" Section

I was just wondering why the pros almost never post in the "ASK THE PROS" section anymore.

Putnam hardly posts anymore, Harriman about once a month, Hillbilly has stuff going in his life but he's still playing in events but not posting. Only the ladies seem to do a good job of replying to questions within a week.

My Suggestion: remove one of the male pro sections and make it a combined section for Grady, Freddie, and Jay Helfert. These guys might not be too excited about having to answer a lot of questions, but at least they post regularly here and seem part of the AZ group.

Given the amount of bashing and other abuse the pros get on this forum(even if it is done by a small minority of people) and others I don't really blame them for not posting.

Some of the pros have definately had too much BS sent their way, but I figured they would request that their section be removed if they have no intention of responding.

That makes sense.

How about adding an Ask The Bangers section?

Sample questions ...

When breaking, is it better to close your eyes or jump up when hitting the cue ball?
How long can I wait before breaking up a cluster without having any other balls on the table?
I played last night and this guy scratched on the break but wouldn't admit a loss and give up the table, what's with that?

Damm! Scratched on the break and didn't admit loss? That's not right. I would have shoved my slip on tip in his ear.
I often close my eyes when shooting. It is kinda like my secret weapon.

LOL .. not the scratch on the break loss !! BAHAHAHAHA

I SWEAR this group of 5 guys at a table next to me last night. One broke and scratched and his buddy jumped up yelling YOU SCRATCHED YOU LOST YOU LOST!! They all started debating about this and one rings in - THATS HOW THE PROS PLAY - YOU SCRATCH YOU LOST. LOL - I then had to jump in and set em all straight

I hope you also told them the 8 is a neutral ball and you can combo it into your ball and keep shooting. However, it has to go clean at the end. No calling a carom or kiss is allowed once you are on the 8!!! I hate stupid rules!! Why can't someone come up with a set of standard bar rules. and print them on a drink coaster or something.

Yeah a few weeks back I played iin this "tournament" at this little neighborhood bar. They had one bar box - took forever. So anyway - I pocket a ball kinda sloppy because it hit the rail b 4 it went in the pocket and this guy goes .. FOUL .. and I was like "WHAT?" He said " your ball hit a rail before you hit it in the pocket and you didnt call it that way. I thought OH GEEZ here we go..... Dumba$$

WHO makes up this ignorant crap? Yeah your right LOL ...print "universal bar pool rules" and put it on some napkins or on the back of a beer label or something.

I had a similar situation happen to me a few weeks ago at a small local bar tournament... pretty much classic bar rules (got to call everything, etc). I was up and the only/best shot I had was a combo. The 5 is near a corner pocket, and the 2 is not too far from it, and I've got to cut the 2. So I call it - "two-five combo" - and shoot. The 2 brushes the short rail as it comes up on the 5, contacts the 5, the 5 drops. My opponent calls foul. I'm like "What?" "You didn't call the rail." "Nobody plays like that!" And then the classic line came out -

"Well that's how *I* learned how to play."

After that bit, and the TD (who's just one of the guys working at the bar, who got saddled with handling the tournament with no experience) waffles a bit, he sides with me on it - then the next week, waffles back and declares the other guy's rule to be the way things are. At that point I printed out the world standardized 8-ball rules and brought'em along the next week, gave'em to the TD and suggested he look into implementing them - nice set of printed rules, right there for everyone to read whenever - and initially he seemed open to the idea, but has since let the idea drop. Meh. :P

Since this thread has changed direction already...here goes...

The funniest odd bar rule I've encountered was some dude insisting that I had to have BOTH feet on the ground when shooting. Ummm, yeah.

OH! And another... Once, a college kid called a scratch on me for a cue ball that hit the back of a pocket, and bounced back onto the table. I responded, "so if you shoot the eight ball but it pops out of the pocket, you win?".

I like the beer label idea.. but, you know this would turn into, "Are we playing Miller or Bud rules?" Then some dumbass would stumble over with a microbrew and just screw everything up.

I'll only argue about it now if it will cost me the game, otherwise I just finish them off and play like a ***** against them the next time.

I think Putnam got a lot of flack from posters for a comment that he made (that they took out of context, or not how he meant it).... They flamed him and he (rightfully so) took his knowledge somewhere where it would be appreciated.

We have several other pros that are getting fed-up with the flaming too....

and my favorite IS when you use a bridge and they start in on OH YOU PLAY GIRL POOL - OR - THATS LIKE CHEATING you PU$$Y

One possible solution is to give some sort of moderator status to the sections of the board that the pros answer questions. Make them the king of their domains. If someone is posting in their section that is giving them crap, they have the absolute right to kick that person to the curb.

Bridge? Try playing a safe...

one thing that cracked me up the other day was watching two bangers at a local club/bar. cueball frozen on the rail and they were doing that butt of the cue spacing for the cueball. even funnier was I remember doing that myself when i was a total ymca banger.

OH thats so funny .. I remember that .. RAIL RULE ..

Oh yeah and play safe and they freak on you. I like the bar rule of not having to hit any ball to play safe... just NUDGe the cue ball about 1/4 inch and...................SAFE!
