Assistance! - No Sale On Ebay? - LeBow

I don't like that the cue is for sale locally. I don't blame you for trying to sell the cue locally, but think that lots of people use this as an excuse to pull the auctions if they think that the cue's not bringing what it's worth. Nothing against you personally, but I've had good buys jerked from under me only to see the item re-listed the next week. Good luck with your sale.

Hi,

It looks like a nice cue, but I think the price seems a little high to me. Sheldon makes a nice cue, but he does not have the name recognition of say a scruggs...etc...

I know you're a Jensen fan, as am I. There is a good example of an excellent cuemaker that for whatever reason is not recognized.

As far as your auction. You might consider starting the bidding out lower (maybe with a reserve, but it is really not necessary). I personally think that you can start the auction out at $1 w/ no reserve. You will get a bidding frenzy and much interest in your auction. I know that for some odd reason I feel more comfortable bidding on things when I see several other people bidding on it. I figure that if I win the auction and don't like it. There is a good chance that I can turn around and sell it and get most of my money back.

good luck,

Regards,

Doug

Good Point.....I'm removing that part right now! I should have known that as I've had cues just dissapear one week and reappear another.

Thanks

Keith

You might want to start at a low starting price and just use the "reserve" feature.

I don't know what the cue is worth but if it is close to your starting bid, most people will just pass over it thinking there is no way they are going to get any kind of deal.

You have to get them bidding on it to stir the juices.

a few possible reasons...

1. Accepting paypal in addition to money orders would probably help (it gives the buyer an extra layer of security).

2. A lot of people just don't like that 'for sale locally' line.....it equates to "I don't give a crap about you (bidder) and I will pull the auction when and if it looks like the bidding won't get as high as I want".

3. Relatively speaking, you don't have a whole lot of feedback even though many here at AZ would trust you in the transaction.

4. Start the bidding off real low....and you almost always do better with a no-reserve auction (although there's some inherent risk).

5. Last and most importantly, most shoppers on ebay are hunting for somewhat of a bargain. As presented with a $600 opening bid, this cue is fairly plain and in great condition, but not a super deal when you consider that his standard cue starts at about $600-$750 range. That is right in the price range that almost every (newer) cuemaker has stuff available in nowadays. Your potential buyers will know there are many options out there, including fancier production cues. Lots of choices. With this auction set up the way it is, you're almost gunning for somebody seeing it who's specifically looking for one of Sheldon's cues.

Just a few thoughts. Hope a few of these help.

Sean-Thanks and duly noted. You're right about targeting Sheldon's fans. I took the "locally" out and will probably follow your advice on the rest of it too. Trying to raise some cash to buy that Gilbert from you!!!

The only problem I have with this auction is the price. I don't feel that I could get that much if I needed to resell the cue. Maybe Sean will take it in trade on the Gilbert.

Thanks Duane...Beauty (or worth) is in the eyes of the beholder. In this case the beholder is both myself, the seller, and someone else, the buyer.

Not a bad idea about Sean and the Gilbert.........Sean are you by any chance reading this...:D

You might consider giving the bluebook price on your cue as well. Not many ebayers will have access to a current bluebook. Maybe tell them something about Sheldon Lebow as well....like he's from Oregon and learned cuemaking from Clark Smith.

You were wondering why it wasn't selling. If you said the cue was $300 I'm sure you would have plenty of buyers. At $600 you don't have any buyers currently. I think the cue is a beauty and Sheldon's work is without question. A lower starting price might spur your auction. You could also change the auction style to "fixed price" and add the "submit your best offer" feature to see what people are willing to pay.

I did change the auction:

I took out the "for sale locally" --
I lowered the minimum bid ---
I put a "reserve price" in place-which is lower than the original asking price --

You are right Duane - Sheldon builds a heck of a cue and someone will be glad they bought it.

You could use a better title for your auction. Most buyers search for "custom cue" or "billiard cue" or "pool cue" and none of this is in your title. This severely restricts the number of people that are going to see your auction. "Sheldon LeBow 4 Point" just doesn't begin to sell your cue unless it's to someone who is specifically searching for Sheldon LeBow. How about "Sheldon LeBow 4 Point Custom Cue"? Just a thought...:)

I just tried to make that change and I can't do anything to the listing. Maybe, since there is one bid, it won't let me change. I'll keep trying.

Much Thanks for the suggestion---
