i am heading to Atlanta for a week and was wondering if some people could give em some insight into some good rooms to play in. good players, good tables, etc........... please pm me with any info.

The Marietta Billiards Club (just outside atlanta )Roswell Rd Marietta
Mr Cues (Chamblee Tucker /off of 285 Chamblee Tucker rd
The Pool Room (Duluth) 85 and Pleasant Hill rd on Mall BLVD
There are some smaller places around downtown atlanta but
these are really the main three in the area .PM me if I can help
you find them or anything.I am usually in the Marietta room 3 or
4 nights a week.

The Marietta Billiard Club is owned by Johnnie Archer and Kim Davenport. I understand that Mr. Cues ll is the place for good players/action.

I 2nd Mr. Cues on Chamblee Tucker. Was there in early November 07 for the USAM Championships. Lots of nice tables! Huge place... at least bigger than what I'm used to seeing here in SoCal.

Do I recall correctly that the Pool Room is non-smoking?

Mr. Cues II and The Pool Room in Duluth are in the NE part of the city; actually the burbs. The Pool Room is smoke free and my favorite. Mr. Cues II is a very good room, too.

I have not been to The Pool Room in Marietta (on the NW burb part of the city) since Johnny and Kim took it over. I hear that it is nice. It was good before they got it.

Those three are definitely the cream of the city.

Mr Cues II

I just spent last weekend in Atlanta, and I spent two afternoons at Mr Cues II. Great equipment (Kim Steel tables) and a great lunch special. Opens at 11:30, and free pool until 3:00 with lunch purchase. The 8 or 10 tables in the back left corner have pockets that are a little tighter than the rest. I would definitely recommend it to anyone that is going to be in the area. It is located on Chamblee - Tucker. Easy to find as well. (Atleast with my GPS :D ) A lot of one pocket players as well.

Mark

I will be in Atlanta next week too

I will be there next week too... The Aspect user conference.

I am sure I will make it out to play a couple of times. PM me and maybe we can meet up at one of the rooms.

Marietta Billiard Club (Archer/Davenport's place) isn't much different than it was before they bought it. In fact, if anything, it's a little worse off... a bit more damage here and there (especially in the men's room).

Now if only it would go smoke-free like the Pool Room did... I'd be happy. :) Duluth is too dang far to drive!

Agree....and they are turning it into a bar instead of a pool room.

Eh, if you're referring to the clientele (aside from the hard-core pool folks), I don't see any big difference between now and before the room changed hands. Except maybe the poker bits, but that's EVERYwhere.

you left out:
side pocket on canton hwy 1/2 mi north of east peidmont in marietta - like 25 or so 9' brunswicks or something.

Mazzy's 2 locations, the better is at holcomb bridge and alphereta hwy in roswell - 11 8' olhausens

townlake billiards - Hwy 92, 1 mi west of 575 in woodstock

not sure if sandy springs billiards is still open or not, but the sign is still there, its on roswell road 1/2 mi north of I285

but yeah the best action is at pool room, mbc, and cues

Side Pockets is a dump. The tables are in horrid shape and the balls in worse shape. The one time I was there, I saw divots in some of the balls. DIVOTS. :/

That said, it's said that that place has been (or is going to be) bought out by the local mega APA LO, and the owner of Mr. Cues 2, and fixed up at some point.

This place has been sold and is now (I believe) Big Shot Billiards. Not sure what changes have been made since I was there last (two years ago). The new owner is in my Wednesday BCA league, and seems like a good enough guy.

Just a couple of days ago, this place came up in conversation with another player, and he said it was still there. It's actually back behind the big strip mall that faces Roswell Rd., which is on your left as you head north away from I-285.

I hope it gets a little better

I dont go there much on friday and saturday nights anymore .It used to
be pool players in the front and alot of bangers here and there ,Now its
all bangers .Which I am sure is good for the bottom line /business/making
money .During the week its still good for leauges and small tournaments
I am trying to recover from being a banger myself so I like being around
serious players :D

you are correct on all points. and your right, side pocket is a dump and so was sandy springs billiards last time i was there like 6 years ago or so. but they still have tables and suckers. speaking of dumps, i even forgot about kennesaw billiards about 1.5 mi west of i75 on wade green.

also my sources tell me, whats his name has already bought out side pocket,as well as has a stake in formerly townlake billiards as well even has like a 25% or so stake in MBC club. i think he's trying to run a monopoly on halls out here. :D
