How is the turn out at dcc this year? I hope that Greg has a good turn out so this continues but the economy is hurting eveything. Are there many vendors?

Turn out is down from last year, I think there is about 10 venders i didn't count them. I don't know how many there were last year.

It was a little slow, several empty seats, the cue guys were slow also I think. It was still a great time, the best pool show on earth.

There were 3 big cue dealer booths and a few other booths as well but not as many as last year. The prices for everything at the hotel is way to much and if you plan on staying the whole time like we did you better bring extra money if you want anything to eat or drink because a can of soda is $2.50 and things like cheeseburgers are $5.00 from a stand that is just about the only place to get anything without going to a restaurant. The buffet is way to much and you would think that spending $1000 for the room up front would get you a break on something. Lot's of people were saying nothing has changed from last year and that may be why the turnout was not as good. There definetly needs to be something done about getting into the action room without having to pay the spectator fee for the tournament if you want to go in before 11:00pm. As far as action goes, there was plenty going on. The tournament is not a close comparrison to what it was at the Executive West.

I have seen a couple of your posts about the expense of going to the DCC. Have you ever been to any other major sporting events? The Derby City PALES in comparison to going to the Super Bowl, the World Series, the US Open (tennis or golf), the Daytona 500, NCAA Final Four, etc. etc. etc. And the food prices are MORE than reasonable compared to the others as well! The stand by the entrance to the big tourney room that you referenced had chicken fingers that were 4 for 4 bucks (and the "fingers" were HUGE!!). Same plate of those at the US Open (tennis - NY) would EASILY cost you 3 times as much (probably more).

Going to the DCC in Louisville was a bit cheaper, and you had MANY more options for dining, etc., but the venue as it has been for the last two years has NOT been OUTRAGEOUS at all. My biggest complaint is the drive required to do anything outside the hotel/casino. There are definitely some "slow" times at the tourney and in the action room....it'd be nice to have places to get away to for a bit without having to drive 15-20 minutes. So, if your complaint were only to move it back to the Executive - I'd agree, but the prices could stay the way they are for everything else, just give me more options to do things outside of the hotel.

You make some good points but most of the events you stated are not 10 days long. The chicken tenders were the best deal by far but after 5 days or so it gets old. If you are talking about doing things outside the hotel like driving somewhere then that would mean building something or moving the tournament somewhere closer to other businesses. When beer is $1 more than a can soda then something has to be wrong. Its not the DCC promotion that is at fault here I dont think, but the tournament brings way more people to the hotel and casino than they would normally have but it makes no difference. What it boils down to is a casino is a license to steal and they can charge whatever they want because people are not going to leave to go eat everyday and when you have multiple matches back to back it leaves little time for other options. For those pool players that try and make a living playing or gambling it is virtually impossible to make any money unless you finish very high in the tournament when 5th through 9th pays $850 which is $150 less than the room for the entire time and that is with the $99 rate that is limited to a number of rooms. It was said numerous times that the players and people attending would get a break on certain things and maybe next year that will happen. I hope the turnout next year is bigger and better because this is one of the best tournaments around and it would be a shame for it to dwindle down to nothing. :deadhorse:
