I sold a couple of cues this weekend and went to send them off using the U.S.P.S . All rates have changed and also services have changed. Tracking is no longer available on packages other that priority mail. So I normally send things partial post with tracking and in most states it runs $12-$16 now cost $19 from Chicago to Florida. So if your selling a lot of items you will have to adjust your sipping quotes. Its probably time to look into UPS for me.
Uncle Sam strikes again.

P.S NO tracking was available at all today computers not working with new tracking system yet.

I know from having done shipping for many years, UPS has good prices, tracking is very good, & I never had a problem getting any mistakes fixed.

Good info. Thanks. I generally use UPS anyway. If I were you I would check them out.

There are pros and cons for all the shipping options.

One negative is that I have received several packages in the past year from USPS that were torn up pretty badly in shipping.

I would never ship a pool cue parcel post!

Who would do that?

Sometimes, Priority mail is cheaper or cost the same as parcel post when printing a label through paypal.

I ship packages almost every day using USPS and to ship a 2 pound package was less than $6 to Illinois just today. When using paypal to ship, I always get a tracking number.

To California it is around $9. USPS has never lost a package is the only way I send cues unless I'm sending more than 6 cues at a time.

The postage really didn't go up that much.

We had assistant post master on our team, You would be amazed to find how the P.O actually works. they don't use separate facilities for partial post and Priority. That is why they ask if you have any items that are restricted from air fight even when you ship partial post(ground ) because more that half of partial post goes air mail right next to your priority package. When Im paying for shipping I consider the value of the cue, insurance, and time to deliver unless promised otherwise. But most of time its partial post.

P.S there is no more Partial Post as of today, its has a new name.

parcel: A thing or collection of things wrapped in paper in order to be carried or sent by mail.

partial: Existing only in part; incomplete.

Not very surprising they had a price hike considering the post office has something like a 3 billion dollar deficit and has been losing money for a while. Tracking is available though, I just sent a package regular mail and was able to get a tracking # for it.

Plus the post office is not really a branch of the government, it was setup to be an independent entity not paid for by tax money. Wait till there is no more USPS and see how the prices do for UPS and FedEx.

Post office tracking

Get delivery confirmation (Green sticker) and you can track it. I will say I have heard they settle the any claim quickly if you have insurance.

With Fed Ex any item insured for over 500 dollars automatically requires a signature.

Two options for me when it comes to shipping:

1. USPS Priority mail, delivery confirmation (gives you a tracking number), and insured.

2. USPS Express mail (tracking built in) and insured.

The only problem I've ever had with the USPS was a few express mailed items have been a day late now and again. In all cases, they refunded me the shipping cost.

I believe 100% that it's worth the $.75 to get delivery confirmation on priority mail.

I believe 100% that you should ALWAYS insure an item unless you're willing to take the hit if it gets damaged.

I believe 100% that no parcel shipping service is good 100% of the time.

Usps

Just point of fact the usps is not loosing money on its operation. The gov. Is taking 5.7 billion a year . It is a way for a hand full of a group of politicians to privatize the usps.prefunding 75years in advance all health benefits . People not even hired yet. The fox in the hen house is working.see what congressman and senators get $ from ups fed ex. Amazing how they vote.

Don't believe anything your assistant post master says!

Parcel post always takes 5-14 days and Priority takes 3 days most of the time, sometimes faster.

I like my pool cues getting to my customer as fast as possible at a reasonable price.

Next time you ship a cue, see what it cost Priority and Parcel Post and see what the difference is. Of course if you don't have proper shipping boxes and materials, Parcel Post might be okay. My packages are usually just under two pounds.

I use the free 38" tubes priority mail boxes, I cut them down and glue and tape them back together so they are a perfect 33 inches. Takes me 5 hours to do 20 of them...but I am anal. :sorry: Wish I wasn't like that and just ship the damn thing.

When I'm done they are stronger and shorter. I don't have to stuff the ends.

Sounds like you got it all figured out, 5 hour of cutting and taping. More power to you. I understand, you don't want your end stuffed. Me neither.

Starting this Monday, delivery confirmation with tracking is included with usps priority. I hesitate to use ups. Their trucks are very large and packages

have a chance to get tossed around or crushed in them. My friend had some parts delivered ups the other day in a triangular tube. It was crushed badly.

The strong steel rods were bent pretty bad. We asked the delivery guys how careful they and their fellow employees are of packages. Their response was

that the emphasis was on speed and less so on package safety. I also asked if packages labeled fragile were treated any differently, he laughingly

explained that little to no consideration was given to such labels.
