Auto tip shaper from Cuesmith

Been using Chris's for 12 years now, really easy to adjust the shape from a nickle to a dime. Once I used it, I realized it was the nuts, and have never ever considered any other way of shaping them. Only time I don;t use it is when I put on snooker tips ( real small ) and they were easy to shape with some 220 paper etc

Tried a couple of tips with the razor blade at the beginning of my journey into cue repairs, but I kept thinking about the blade getting ripped out of my hand and landing in my eye or cutting some part of the body or worse.

This is about the only way to shape a laminated tip. IMHO

Thanks for the info. I like the idea also...and not having to replace blades every tip. Safer AND economical too :-)

Chris said the slot in the tool post has to be greater than .375". He said some tools posts from Taig are less than the .375. Mine is about .372. Did you experience any issues with mounting the tool? Not sure why he wouldnt make the tool a standard .250".

I have one,
I have never liked it for some reason.
I prefer the shaper from unique, I really prefer the tool post rest from Bob dzuricky though.
I just worked a tourney where I replaced a hundred tips, the tip rest worked like the nutz!
I just have to mill one from aluminum though as the plastic one took a beating :)

A friend is making me a rest similar to the one Bob Dzuricky sells but with both radii on 1 side. I was hoping the auto cue shaper from cuesmith would be even better.

Can you give in concrete reasons whay you dont like that tip shaper?

There isn't anything wrong with it at all,
It is just a little awkward for me to use, pulling the tool up is weirder than side to side for me.
It seems to arc in an eccentric arc as well.
I'm sure it's a personal preferance.
I never really figured out how to set the shape either, I really only use that particular tool to start the shape on g-10 and phenolic ferrules.
