I was looking on here and stumbled upon this. I thought it was very cool and wondered if anyone here has used it. I am a Mac Enthusiast all the way. I would also like to know if it is something suitable for inlay designs or would I be better off saving my money and skipping it altogether and waiting until I got set up with the whole enchilada CNC-wise?

Thanks fellas,
SK

SK,

If you do decide to go with AutoCAD, don't pay retail!!

It turns out students (or legitimate dealers) can sell their student license of AutoCAD with a 3-year license term. It is fully functioning software - there are only a couple of hints that it is a student version: One is when you print something out - it will print "Created with an Education Version" or something like that on the borders of your print. The other is if you open a non-student created drawing you will get a warning that the "Student" border will print out and it will stay with the drawing even if it is later modified by a fully licensed copy. Also, you cannot upgrade these installations to a newer version of AutoCAD.

I bought my AutoCAD from this guy:

There are many other sellers on eBay - whether or not they offer Mac software, you'll have to look and see.

This is totally legitimate or I wouldn't post this here. I even had a problem with a license I bought from a guy claiming to be a college professor and when I tried to apply the license number he gave me, I got a message "This license not valid for installations in the U.S.". I contacted AutoDesk customer support and told them the truth about how I got the license, they sent me back a legitimate license that installed perfectly (so now I have two). Also, you can easily export and import your license between two (or more) computers, but only one computer has the valid license at any time - I've done that too.

Hope This Helps!

I think learning to draw in Mastercam or Bobcad would be a time and money better spent .
Why draw on cad ( 2D ) which you are going to import to a cam software anyway?

AutoDesk (AutoCAD) has really improved in their 3D capabilities, I agree though it may better to start with the CAD/CAM system you are going to use. Sometimes you lose a lot of info, or geometries break when importing them.
