Stating they broke then like they break now, is like saying Jack Nicholas in his prime could drive like Tiger does now. They are worlds apart.

My argument is the same for pool, that it is for golf, football, basketball, or anything else for that matter. INFORMATION IS KING. SVB had/has access to info that the greats of years past didn't. Look at how many high caliber short stops are out there. Look at how I can play after only 4 years of play. I can play as good or better than guys that have been at it for 20-30.

The same reason why Kobe was more talanted than Jordan, Lebron will ultimately be better than both, and the guy after him will be even better, is simple. As info to better training techniques, proper form, etc. are easier to get, more & better players/athletes will turn up. This is of course applicable to pool only if it survives...

I like looking at the past to see where we are now. Just look at Mosconi as a prime example. his 526 mark is THE mark in pool. Guys are out there running 300 & 400+ runs that hardly play the game. John Schmidt came out and said the reason why the record stands is because no one cares enough to beat it. there is no reason to hit the mark.

I like thinking in their prime this is a slug fest. I'm not saying either side walks away from the other. I'm simply stating be real about the chances. To say Dennis and Shane have no chance, is the same as saying that Tiger had no chance against Jack. There is no way to prove it. Just chalk it up as the greatest match of all time.

LOL don't let no one fool ya. There is many that would give their left nut to beat Mosconi's record. 300 and 400 don't make 526. And Mosconi did it while being a 15 time World Champion.

A pool cue is still wood (as compared to the development of a golf club) (unless you want a graphite cue or a cheaper wood substitute). Add on a phenolic tip, that may add a tiny bit to speed while losing some control.
Efren has played all the new players and Mike Sigel in the 80s and 90s. So, who was it he said was his toughest opponent again?

Bring back the Corey Deuel soft break! I love every once in a while pulling that line out while my friends look at me like what the heck are you talking about until I soft break and make a ball almost every rack.

I never said either side would walk away with it. I also think we have yet to see Shane's prime, maybe even dennis is just now hitting his stride.

If you really think that Efren/Earl would pound Shane/Dennis you're crazy. it's going to be close at best. Hell, it would be close now. When your talking about the 4 of the all time best pool players to ever live its going to be CLOSE.

I actually did not say they would pound them. But I know who would win the majority of times, based on performances up to this time. Which is all we have to go on. :grin:

I personally don't see why it was ever taken away. It was a legal shot. Lets do away with a hard break to then. Does that sound logical? Well neither was making the soft break an illegal shot.
It was a guy finding a better way and the others whining about it... That's all it coulda been.

We talking scotch doubles, or alternating by innings? Scotch doubles brings in a lot of variables that don't seem to favor Earl's game, given that he's a fast player (rhythm is constantly broken in scotch) with a weakness in the mental game. Also Efren and Earl play position fairly differently, with Earl firing balls in playing area position, and Efren preferring to ensure plenty of angle so he can shoot softer. Adjusting their position play for each other's game is a distraction that can become a problem in scotch doubles.

If you alternate innings instead of shots, I think Efren and Earl in their primes would torture any other hypothetical duo.

I agree with you and disagree. I think when all is said and done, Shane will be the most dominant player to have ever played. (As long as he continues to keep his head clean.)

Well I certainly wish him the best. We certainly need more dominate players in the U.S. Pool has become a hobby here for most sadly. So hard to have people dedicated to it full time. But the future is looking up.

I agree. The thing about Shane, is I'm not aware of anyone else with the same work ethic. If he keeps at it, He'll keep getting better. I hope he does, and I hope the best for the rest of the USA players.
