AZ Billiards is not the best billiards forum...

...Or maybe it is. I want to find out for sure.

I decided to do some research on the most popular billiards and pool forums on the web. My goal is to build a detailed blog post that run down all of the major forums communities on the following metrics:

Date of forum launch
# of Users
# of threads
# of posts
Popular post categories
…and all other relevant site info

Hopefully this research will provide information on the offerings of each community - and will allow readers to pick the ‘best’ online forums. So far, I’ve researched the following forums (Minimum requirement for inclusion is a Google Pagerank of 3),

AZ Billiards
Inside Pool
Billiards Digest
OnePocket.org
Uk8Ball
Usenetsports
Socal pool talk
Poolfanatic
Seyberts
Poolchat
Easypooltutor
World pool championship
Southern Billiards
Pro9
Nola.com
Xtreme Forum

What I need now is some member feedback on what my research can’t tell me - which forum is truly the ‘best’. I’ll include the best user comments in my blog post to help illustrate the intanglibles each offers.

Please help me out by leaving a comment at my blog (BilliardsBlogger.com)) letting me know which forum is the best and why. Feel free to speak about more than one forum - I’ll give a $50 Amazon coupon to the member who makes the most compelling argument for ranking the forums in a certain manner.

Thanks in advance for the help with this - I think it’ll provide some real value to the billiards and pool community. It’s December 3rd today - lets give it 2 weeks to pull in some comments. I’ll write a post announcing the winner on December 10th.

Cheers

At first I thought that I couldn't comment on this because AZB is the only one I use. Then I started to remember the times that I checked out a few other forums and I'm still here rather than there. Not enough time for more than one so I'm here.

This will be very difficult to do. I think it is the word by word content that makes one better than the other more so that features, how many members or how many posts, etc.

AZ features knowledgeable users and a fair administration. What more can you ask? They don't even mind if you occasionally hype your own pool site.

I don't know about being "the best", but it surely is the busiest! at any time of day or night you can get on here and there's at least 10 people looking at it. more people frequent this forum than any other I've ever seen related to billiards. I'll pm you in a minute after I'm done commenting. there is alot of information on here for the billiards enthusiast, be it good or bad info, you just have to filter through some of it! this site has been here for a while which is why it has the people here it does...it is a good site for the most part, I'm not gonna knock it...I just wish a few things were different. this is just my opinion though, take it for what its worth

I am in the same boat...
AZB is the only forum I am active on with an account.
The other forums I did stop by read a few threads but I am staying here.

Obviously, I think your research will show you that AZ forums probably has a higher "average number of posts per day" than all the other billiard forums put together.

But what research won't show you, in black & white terms, is the quality of the posts. By "quality", I mean the experience, commitment, knowledge, professionalism, and overall comprehension of what is going on in the billiard world; past, present, and future. And if you want that, you have to go AzBilliards Forums.

moderated vs. non-moderated forums

I wondering if you should have two categories of forums for your ratings. There is a HUGE difference between those forums that are essentially wide open and which allow virtually any content (non-moderated) and those forums which are moderated and carefully watched for objectionable content. If a user is looking for a forum where they can flame, cuss, post ads, and feel free to post any imaginable content, they won't like ANY of the moderated forums, certainly not this one. On the other hand, if a user is looking for more civil discussion, no ads, and the ABSENSE of some of the more notorious, obnoxious posters, then they will seek a moderated forum. In my opinion, AZ is far and away the best moderated forum.:) For a "specialty" forum, devoted to a single type of pool game, Onepocket.org is by far my favorite. And for wide-open, unmoderated, I guess (I cringe as I type this!), check out RSB ( http://groups.google.com/group/rec.sport.billiard?lnk=li&hl=en ).

With more quality "names" on the member roster, more quality input, fair mods, and IMO the best community atmosphere, AZB wins hands down. Where else can you surf and chat with as many pros and old schoolers as you can here? If this place is good enough for magazine columnists, book authors, industry big wigs, and national tour organizers, it's good enough for me.

I've been to just about all of those other sites and they just don't do it for me like this forum does.

Personally, I prefer moderated forums over non-mod because I really don't have time to deal with idiots over the internet. Law and order is better than anarchy.:)

Without a doubt.

Most other MBs degenerate quickly with woofing, name calling, bashing, ect.

But not here.

People are knowledgeable respectful, eager to assist, and willing to share.

My overall experience and enjoyment of my games and nights out have been deeply effected in a positive way from the AZ.

I have been a part of other forums. Good forums but once I joined here I haven't logged in once to another pool forum. AZ has too many great members and the MODs don't mess around. I hope to be on here for many years to come.

Any alterior motives here considering this is only your third posting on this board?

This is another reason that this forum is the best.

There ain't nobody going to pull anything on anybody on here. If you lie or misrepresent yourself or something you are selling, YOU WILL BE CAUGHT

You've heard of the "six degrees of separation"........if it concerns the billiard world and people on this forum, it doesn't matter who or what it is, there is at the most "two degrees of separation"

AZBilliards--no doubt!!

I've checked out a few other forums out there, and nothing comes close to AZBilliards in terms of the quantity and quality of content on this forum. Further, I've seen a sense of community on AZBilliards that is unmatched elsewhere. Many of the outstanding personalities in the pool world are here, and the forums are full of knowledgeable and genuinely helpful posters. I can't, of course, ignore the fact that we have our share of village idiots (I don't mean you, Fred :) ), but that is the nature of a great village. By necessity, it is composed of all kinds of people, and that's just what AZBilliards is--a great international village populated by some of the most enthusiastic lovers of the game that exist on this planet.
