Just a reminder that the 1st leg of the new Arizona Desert Classic Tour is this weekend (March 15th & 16th) being held at Alexander's Sports Bar in Phoenix. If you plan on playing, be there by 10am on Sat. the 15th!

Cool place to play pool, all Diamonds! And Jimmy M. is the man in charge! If he has Bull helping out, it will run smoothly as well.

That link has huge news for the 7s and 8s in the valley...If they were on the fence regarding entering...this should probably make that decision pretty easy...

What other tournament are you ever going to get to both play the best players in the state....& at the same time have a good chance to make some do-re-me... ;)

Jay,

Not sure if you remember me, but i met you at the recent Dust Off. Hopefully, you can make it out for at least two of our monthly tournaments, so you can qualify for the Championship Tourney in December. My guess is it will be well over 5K added. It's a minimum 4K as it stands now. We would love to have some of you west coast players in the mix as well.

Yes, I remember you. Jimmy's partner. I'll do it if I can. Just keep announcing those dates.

I'll have help from my partner in crime, Dennis Orender, and Bull is indeed running our events. :)

I couldn't agree more......

As mentioned in another thread, the winner of this first Desert Classic event will also receive a paid entry ($400) into the Desert Shootout, courtesy of our title sponsor, Visual Impressions. This is a 25K added event (10-ball) being held April 24-27, at the Sheraton-Crescent Hotel, in Phoenix.

Are these tournaments open to anyone? I was reading about under 8 players which indicates a handicap?

If it is open I might go over there for a few of them.

thx

The tournament is open (non-handicapp)..It IS open to out of state players... (all entry money and sponsor added money goes into the main pot)

The only thing that has anything to do with the rating is a "side pot" that is limited to 8 & under rated players only...(it does not sound like you would qualify for that)

You can get into the "main" side pots though that are open to "all" players. :)

They are NOT handicapped. However, we have a large percentage of players in Arizona that fall into the "8-and-under" range on our statewide handicap system. In an effort to make our tournaments more appealing to this large group of players, we have come up with the things listed in that write-up by Ron. Everyone pays the same entry fee (there are optional side-pots though), and there is no handicapping of any kind.

Try to get out to at least two of them so you'll be eligible to play in the season finale.

Hope to see you here. :)

To add to what you said, we are limiting the 8-and-under side-pot to players who are either listed on the ratings sheet, or have a ratings card. We were concerned that we'd have players showing up on the day of the event wanting to be rated. While we are making every reasonable effort to make our tournaments more appealing to this group of players, our tour is less about handicaps and rating systems, and more about trying to promote high-level pool in Arizona. On top of that, between trying to play in the tournaments and fulfilling any responsibilities involved with running the tour, we cannot commit our time to rating players on the days of the events.

Thanks for the explanations.

I wont be at the one next weekend but do plan on going to a few of them now.

I heard about some cheap airfare to Phoenix at a nearby airport..:-}

thx

Great, we look forward to having you. Be sure to introduce yourself, so that I can put a face to the name. :)

Only three days to go. Rumor has it, Ron Merseal will be putting the chef hat on again, and firing up the grill in the parking lot. Anyone confirm this?

Didn't know Ron was a chef too. I should be able to be there by 10 am on Saturday, need to get acclimated to those 7' Diamonds.

Chef? Chef?? Hell, he's a chef, a bar owner, a league operator, a journalist, a webmaster, a graphic designer, a tournament director, a pool player, a golfer, and a pretty okay guy to top it all off! Did I leave anything out? ;)
