AZ Forum Mid West Tourney...

I'm not sure what a good time to have a tourney for AZ Members is, so I thought I'd get some suggestions. I have a couple great locations in Illinois (about 20 minutes from St. Louis) that we could have an AZ Members Tourney. What is a good time to have it that will not conflict with other tourneys or expos in our industry? June, July, August, ??? I think the cuemakers and dealers that are members of AZ Billiards Forum could set up a table or bring their products and sell. It could be a simple double elimination, calcutta, and maybe a few cue raffles type of tourney weekend.

I'll step up and make the arrangements at the pool room and lodging, if we have enough interest. Just let me know!

I will definately come to a member's tournament if I possibly can. Two or three others from my area would probably come down with me. My folks live in O'Fallon so I can make a double duty trip out of it. Personally, I'd like to play on a weekend because of my job. I imagine most of us feel the same way.
What places do you have in mind? How much money are we talking about?

locations...

I have 3 locations in mind...
1) Sharky's, Maryville Illinois
2) Brendans Billiards, Fairview Heights Illinois
3) Teachers Billiards, Fairview Heights Illinois

Fees will be small, between $10-$25 entry fee. Where are you from? I live in Ofallon Illinois. Check my profile!

Thanks,
Zim

Sounds good, players must play under their screen names though. What size tables? I'll play if at all possible. Great idea. Be sure to give us enough warning so there can be a sufficient amount of woofing, predictions, trash talk, etc.

Hey Zim,

The Midwest Expo/Open is coming back! Dates almost signed, and PR coming this week.

You and all are welcome at the event!

Eydie

Zim,

Don’t you think that Illinois might be a little too far for Florida players to travel to? I mean really, if we attend how could we not win. It’s almost a forgone conclusion. It might be too much to ask us to travel that far just to deliver an appropriate ass wuppin and then turn around and travel back to Florida with all the prize money.

So, in the interest of simplicity and time, how ‘bout you just collect all entry fees, make a certified check (in care of Fla. Players) and mail it to me. I’ll see to it that the money is distributed accordingly. And we (assuming I can speck for all Florida players) promise to acknowledge each and every one else’s tough and competitive play in the utmost regard, without snickering.

Concerning when, any time or date would be good, if you follow the above instructions.

Rick :D

Yes I agree if it can't be on the gulf coast of Florida, just send us the money,
If this is not agreeable how about a central location such as.............

Tampa, !!!!!! Planet 9 Ball sound like a perfect location.. How about it everyone??

Hi Zim,

Yes, we will have a publication. I don't know if it will be exactly like last year's but it will be nice. I am looking forward to meeting you and the family...BTW when is the baby due?

Eydie

The baby is due September 11th!! Crazy huh??

Keep the ideas and dates posted and I'll start looking into dates and locations for our AZ tourney!

I live in Champaign, IL. Roughly 3 hours away from you. My folks moved to O'Fallon (Shiloh, actually) a few years ago. I don't play down there much but I'm pretty sure I've been to all three of those places. I don't remember which one is which. Does one of those places have 10-12 ninefooters and nothing else? And one has a huge fishtank?
Where's the action down there these days? Any onepocket?

Do you know Matt Miller, or Boyd Reed(not me) from East St. Louis?

Later, man

I know Matt Miller and the other name rings a bell, but not for sure. Sharky's has 10- 9' and 10- 7'. Teachers has the same and Brendans has 10/12- 7' and about 10- 8' tables. Teachers and Sharky's serves food and all three have a full bar. I'm leaning towards Sharky's. Gary Lutman is the owner, if anyone knows him. Andy Quinn owns Teachers now, I'm sure many of you have heard of him. I'm going to talk to Gary (Sharky's) tonight and see what he thinks about it. I'm thinking about using the 7' tables, any suggestions??

Thanks,
Zim

Pool is more fun on a 9 foot table, you find out who you really are (I often find myself thinking I'm Willie Mosconi on a 7 foot table, on a 9 foot table its usually Chevy Chase).

Zim, Good idea. I've been to Sharkey's, right after it opened. Played in a Mcdermott stop. It's about 5 hours but I'll be there with a little warning.
Eydie, We enjoyed the expo last time and plan to attend the next one. Please make sure it's posted here and thanks for all your efforts.

To the Florida guys, Where do I send the check? HA HA HA HA We ain't that easy. You want this Northern $$$$$$ Come get it. Hope to see you all there. Sam

Zim,
Just let me know when.As long as i have some advance warning I can make the drive over.

I don't know how everyone else feels, but I strongly prefer the nine foot tables. The tighter the better. However, if everyone is going to travel to play in this thing why not have more than one event? Maybe 9-ball on the little boxes and one pocket on the big ones.
I've seen Andy Quinn play, and I for one don't want any.

I'm originally from Centralia, IL., and would make the trip over for the tourney since I could tie in visits with family and friends in IL. I agree on the 9' tables. Also, please check you PM.

Well, it has begun. Zim, if the Florida players really show up to give us an exhibition (and wouldn't that be fabulous, golly, us hicks up north have never seen real pool players before), you will have to consider a change of venue. If you are going to find a room that will contain their ego's you might have to go a little bigger - perhaps the Silverdome in Detroit would suffice.

Should be adequate. What about our hotel accommodations? BTW, how much would you be willing to pay for skybox seats for this event?

Rick :p

Skybox seats are already sold out. Be sure to arrive early enough for the autograph session and media interviews.
