AZ Open Players

We are getting there folks. We could use a little more help on this. I have about four years of Billiard Digest I would let go of to help raise more cash. If interested, PM me or I will put them on the auction site. If you have been thinking about helping sponser the players and just haven't yet, now is the time.

if ya'll would excuse the rudeness of littel o'l me, I would like to offer my 2 cents for this whole sending an az man to the open. I like the idea. it's nice and kind of fun. however wouldn't be more fair and insure the cream of the crop of you had a tournament in town for arizonin's where all the entries when to their funding the u.s. open trip? This would insure that you get a lot of involvment as well as no playering favorites.

besides, with all the entries and donatations I bet you could send a four a five players to the open. it just seems highly unfair that only two or so mediocure players that happen to be net junkies get to go.

The whole point is that they are net junkies or at least AZ supporters.
AZbilliards is far from being a local arizona board. Theres people
from all over the world the come here to ask questions, answer questions,
give opinions, and net socialize. Most people on here would not hesitate to
go a little out of their way to meet others from here. It more of a group sending one or more of their own to a function rather than pulling a name out of a hat. JimmyM, RudeDog and Satman are all very good players. Are they
Pro level players? Probably not but they come here and interact with
the rest of the players here.
If only players that could win or place in the Open went it would be a
disaster with very few entry's.
I would love to see 4-5 players from here go to a tournament. This is the
start. It is hopefully the beginning of something. We picked this
event because it is next and one of the most prestigious pool events.
Next time we probably should choose a cheaper event so that it is more feesable and maybe more players could attend.
It just gives the board members a way to be inside the ropes so to speak.
We will get reports and followups from the guys and will have a little
extra interest in he whole event as well as the players that we send.
It is for fun. Anyone that gets in this for money is in the wrong thing.

I look forward to the day that maybe I can catch these guys on BCN
while I am watching a live broadcast of the event. I also hope it gives
Mike some support for doing what he does with this site.
If we all lived near each other a tourney for entry money would help but IMO
it needs to be people (members) from here that put in the cash and/or the
time to find deals. Otherwise it would not be an AZBilliards members event.
just my 2 cents

Mediocure? Pro level? This is my opinion of the playing ability of Jimmy, Rude dog, and myself. I have not seen Rude Dog or Jimmy hit a ball in my life, but in all honesty from their posts on this board, references from other known players, and the players they have beaten in the past, I'll put them both at pro level competitors. They may not be Efren or Archer level players, but in a set of 9-ball, the UNDERDOG some times kick the crap out of the Top Dogs. I have beaten some high caliber players and when referring to my caliber of play I consider myself a semi pro. Mostly because I work for a living. My game at this time, as far as tournament play goes, I'd put myself in the top 5 for Indiana. This is my opinion on this brilliant idea for the US Open, we're helping send 2 players who love our sport, work at it to improve, and are willing to take the time to post here to help other players from all over the world that they have not met and may never meet. Keep knockin' em in fella's, and have a great time. Sam

Satman, you are a class act and I hope to meet you someday. Of course Jimmy and I aren't an Efren or Archer, but who is? Except them? I wouldn't even have wasted my time or anyone else's on here to have a chance to go to the Open if I didn't think I had a chance to win. I know for a fact that I can beat anyone at any time in a race to 9 or 11. I've done it before, and I plan on doing it again. I'm also a realist too, these guys can play and they play good! But when the match is over they will know that I can play too. I went for $40 in a calcutta one time and the highest bid went for about $1,100. I won the tournament! I know how to play when I'm the underdog and my heart is as big as anyone's. I'm not in awe of anyone's game when I play them because when they miss, it's my shot and they can't do anything to stop me when they're in their chair. I've beaten Ralf Souquet in the finals in Vegas while he was there for the big tourney when the Mirage was hosting it. I beat Parica in that same tournament. The only problem I have right now is that I've been out of the loop for so many years, the jitters may come into play. But I'm strong minded, sober, and I'm hungry again! Pool was my life at one time and I'm ready to make it my life again. But when it's all said and done, no matter the outcome, I'm still coming home to my wife and kids and that's what matters to me. I can share my pool playing life with my family now, unlike before when it was just me. When I leave from the tournament, everyone will know that I came to play and that I'm back! So, as far as the mediocre thing, I'm far from it to those of you that don't know me. Again, Satman, I like your style Buddy and good luck to you. Peace!!!

You are a class act as well Rude Dog. Well said, Satman is very classy as well. It will be a pleasure to root you on at the Open. Our best to you and Jimmy.

Geez, I might suggest that if you think these guys are mediocre, you try to match up with them sometime.

I would say unless you are kicking in some cash it's NONE OF YOUR FUCKING BUSINESS.

Anybody in Arizona or anywhere else for that matter is free to put on a tournament with entry fees going to send somebody to the Open. Why don't you do it?

Good day Cuteone, if you had been following this thread from the begining, you might know what you are talking about.
First, the players were chosen by the votes. You donate, you vote. This made everyone on this forum a candidate. No matter where they were from.

Second, you show me how to pay for more than two players to go with the donations. We got $820 so far plus I donated a $530 brand new custom cue and Leonard Bludworth donated a $350 cue to help support this idea. The hotel is costing $720 for 8 nights. The air fare is running about $550. Thats for two players. That is about $1,270 out of the $1,300 we have. So please explain how we can send more. I would really like to now.

Third, mediocure players? Once again, you have no idea what you are talking about. These two have been endorsed by Keith McCready and Melissa Herndon. Two touring pros. Keith and Buddy Hall, (thats hall of fame Buddy Hall) have lost to one or both of them.

Fourth, I haven't received your donation yet. Thats the only way you have any say in this. The members have voted. You want to vote, send your check with your vote.

Fifth, every dime is going to the players. All the cue money and donations will be accounted for. We are doing this to help support the sport we love, a couple deserving AZ players, Pool in general, the US Open tournament, and AZ Billiards forum.
Now, before you post your concerns, find out exactly what you are talking about. Before you call someone a mediocre player, do some research. And keep your negativity to yourself.
Handsomeone, I am just a guy.

Hey Don,

Add another $25 to the total. Just dropped it in the mail. Go get em guys.
