AZB Room - Giveaways

Just a summary of some of the giveaway events. On the first weekend Timberly ran a 9-ball event, with JoeyA taking first prize of $200. No one can recall who finished 2, 3, 4 (also cash prizes for those losers).

On Thursday, we gave away the Jack Justis Roadrunner case to Steve Van Houten. We also had a Q-Skills Challenge tournament for everyone in the room (2 racks of Q-Skills Challenge, prizes to the top 4 scores). I will mention that the AZB table was cut TIGHTER and DEEPER than anything you play on, making the Q-Skill Challenge a TOUGH DAMN game. I ended up winning, with TommyT (who did score a perfect 20 in the second round) and sodapopd tieing for second/third. Samiel was a respectable fourth.

We also gave away a large amount of Joe Tucker materials – graciously donated in bulk by JoeT – and everyone left with a Stroketrainer, Aiming System book or CD, or a “Guaranteed Improvement” booklet. Steve Lomako donated a “Spider”, which was won by Cornerman (I’ll mail it to you FA).

Jerry Briesath gave away about 10 hours of free lessons to eager students.

Many, many thanks to Jack, Joe, Jerry, Steve, and all who I’ve forgotten who contributed to a great week at DCC

It stayed on the chalkboard for a few days but I did write the results down so that I could post them when I got home. I recall seeing them when I was packing & now I can't find them. If I'm not mistaken, the list went like this...

JoeyA
IronDon55
Etimmons
goingproin07

If I'm wrong, someone please let me know. Thanks!

Here's some pics of the tournament I had on Sat the 7th. (sorry for the quality. My camera doesn't do very well without the flash)

JoeyA (LOL, the whole wkend I had JoeyA's avatar confused with cueJoey's avatar and JoeyA never corrected me. I know the difference between the two posters but for some reason I was getting the av's messed up.) JoeyA has a great game and was seen playing EVERYWHERE this week from the AZ room to across the street on the barboxes to the main tourney room.

For the record, there were quite a few AZB'ers that shoot a mean stick and were seen playing everywhere this week. ;)

Etimmons was another AZB'er that I was seeing every where all week long. He didn't manage to do his best in our little tournament here but don't let that fool you.... he's got some game! ;)

Last but not least is goingproin07 (Justin). LOL, I think Justin got the most use of the table during the week. He's very enthusiastic about his game and pool in general. He's definitely trying to learn and doesn't hesitate to ask questions. ;)

There is no doubt he got the most use out of the table and the room, but I (along with a few others) might disagree about the rest.

WOW, I didn't know that. I thought Ratchet had all but adopted the kid. Due to working the booth I wasn't in there as much as some of the others and had no idea that any altercations of any kind had happend. :(

Well, the kid was young... which is why we're calling him kid... pretty much the only thing he asked for was a cigarette every once in a while...

He did say that a certain someone was a real d*ck... but I won't name any names Jimbo... :p

He got a bad deal

Justin is a good kid who got a raw deal by an asshole who promised to share a room with him ,He is also a U.S. Marine awaiting medical discharge ,He and his wife are separated and he has a beautiful little girl . I took him under my wing and actually did stay a couple of extra days than I had planned just so he had a place to sleep. It wasnt a hard decision to make...

When I checked in around 8 pm thursday I noticed someone curled up in a chair in the lobby I couldnt see his face but remember thinking that that chair couldn't
be comfortable . Justin was the first person I met in the room ..I then recognized he was the guy in the chair by his clothes . I called it a nite and left him to watch the room. When I came down early friday he was still there shooting away and we talked a bit more and I found he was in a tough spot and I came to like the kid , I monitored the room thursday nite and friday I asked some one to relieve me so I could freshen up and catch a few Z's I came down to find Justin in a straightback chair leaning up against the counter sound a sleep once more looking uncomfortable as hell ,Just looking at him made my back hurt , So I made him go to my room to get some rest ,I figured that he needed some help so I gave it . I let him sleep for around 4 or 5 hours and woke him up and let him use my shampoo and stuff to freshen up.

Feeling refreshed he told me that he had flown in using airline mile tickets
and had pre arranged the deal with the room ,upon his arrival his roommate told him to beat it ..... I took Justin back to the motel to get his suitcases which had been dumped at the office and brought him back to the hotel where he found that that SOB had rifled thru his suitcase . Justin didnt have much money and the hotel food soon broke him .

As a former Navy guy and having been down and out most of my life (still am actually) there was no way I was going to abandon my brother in arms so I
"adopted" him and helped him out right up til I left , I just hope someone picked up where I left off ...He is about my daughters age and if something
similar (god forbid) was to happen to her I would only hope some good samaratin(sp) would do the same for her

He wants to learn to be the best and took on all comers and I think he was dearly enjoying it to boot ( He has a crush on Sarah) lolol When I left I gave him a few bucks to get something to eat on and I hope to hear from him online soon so I know he made it home OK.

There were no altercations that I know of buy sadly I was involved in an arguement over smoking there were 3 people at best in the room at the time
and I have apologized in an earlier post and am sorry it happened , I just dont want it to be said that I put a blot on anything ! No one put more time in or on the room in the first few (5) days than I did. I did my best . The sign in the lobby said smoking was allowed in meeting rooms and the maintenance man that helped me out a great deal said that these kind of rooms are allowed smoking all the time as long as they are rented as private which we were .

it must be conceded that as of the last postings here about the room smoking was to be allowed and I did put it out I realized that for the remainder and well being of the group I would smoke outside so as to not be a part of the problem any more, others continued and not once were chastized , It was a safety in numbers thing and when I came back from freshening up I was out numbered plain and simple ...and that is the last I will remark about it ...let it drop ,IF YOU CAN ...some wont I am afraid ,everyone has a soapbox anymore and nothing sacred is safe from assault on any given day by someone who disapproves........BTW I started my attempt to quit smoking again , this time I m using the patch ....wish me luck

Ratchet - still thinks it was the best time an adult could have with their clothes on ! I just hope everyone dont hate me for one mistake .....

Well, lets just say I hope I was the dick LOL. I'm sure he might be a good kid, but he was annoying to many in that room and IMO took advantage of the situation and made us look bad at times and was just plaine rude most of the time. I tried to work with him, I tried to be patient, but the kid was rude and scared off a few people, I finally got fed up and said something, guess I was the only one willing to open my mouth, others just left and staid away, not what the room was there for. But like I said I know of 3 at least who avoided the room because of him.

Jim

While Justin is a bit young, almost as young as Samiel :-), I didn't notice anyone getting PO'd with Justin except personally I didn't like the idea of him smoking in the AZ room and told him so. I don't like anyone smoking in a small room like that, especially where many non-smokers helped pay for the room.

While he did seem to monopolize the table because he was there most of the time, he would always graciously bow out if his presence wasn't wanted at that moment in time. He seemed respectful of everyone. I didn't hear him call Jimbo any rude names either. I wasn't around him 24/7 but it was nice that someone was around so that the room didn't have to be closed-up half of the day because someone wasn't keeping an eye on the place. Ratchet and Justin kept the room open most of the time although there was plenty of others including Randi (Grady's wife) who always manages to lend a helping hand wherever she goes.

Now Randi got a reward and has a special New Year's resolution from Grady. He promised to never gamble at pool again. That's gonna be awfully hard on Randi.

I was there from Wednesday night until early Saturday. Justin was definatly a fixture in the room the whole time, but nobody had a problem with it that I was aware of. Most everybody seemed to like him. I don't know what happened before I got there, but while I was there he was doing nothing to justify anybody "avoiding the room".

Rachet - yes, other "adopted" him and gave him a helping hand when you were gone. I know of at least three people helped him out one way or another.
