FYI, we now have confirmed donations from (in no particular order)...

Joe Tucker
Tiger Products
Predator
Platinum Billiards
Bob Henning
Hustlin USA
Matchroom Sports
Lara Rossignol
Rodney Morris
Keith McCready and Jennie Malloy
Ewa Mataya
Ron Hamner Jr
Richard Chan

I suspect this is just the tip of the iceberg though.

Excellent start Mike.I'm sure their are more cue dealers/makers(like X Breaker) who will donate a cue or so if approached, there are professional instructors who will give out free lesson packages as prizes, free billiard magazine suscriptions,etc.etc. and the possibilities for the rest of the pool community to reach out and help is endless.Another possibilitiy is pool book writers/authors and pool instructional dvd/vhs teachers would probably consider donating a book or a dvd for a prize.Accustats may even put together a 5 dvd set or perhaps a Strickland vs. reyes Color of Money dvd set. These are just a few of the ideas I could think of and there's probably a whole lot more.

Best of luck in your quest for potential prizes. I think you will be amazed to see how the pool community steps up to the plate for such a worthy cause.RJ

I think a straight forward raffle is the best idea of all the ideas mentioned so far.I think the SIMPLER this thing is kept, the better.

List all the various prizes up for winning by all the various donaters.Have one BIG grand prize that will get all of us pool junkies salivating ,fantazing and dreaming of winning.Follow that up with at least two decent consulation prizes (or more), set a ticket price and let her fly.

If tickets are $20 apiece, a person can buy as many tickets as he wants or as he can afford. At a $20 buy in, EVERYONE will be able to afford at least one ticket and have a chance to win.

Others will be able to kick in $100,$200 or more and won't look at it as 5,10 or more chances to win. they'll look at as donating to a worthy cause and see winning some pool stuff only as a bonus.I think that, that should be the spirit of this whole thing.

If tickets start at $20, I'm willing to get the ball rolling and buy $100 (5 raffle tickets) worth. If all the money goes to the victims (which it will) EXCELLENT!!!If I win some pool prize along the way,it's just icing on the cake.
RJ

ps. God bless all of those who have already stepped up to the plate to donate.

I think all the money will go to the victims. In my case, I will pay the shipping to ship the X Breaker to the winner. All I need is a shipping address at the end, or the winner can meet me up at my booth in the US Open and choose which X Breaker he/she likes.

Also, I just want to say that even $5 a ticket can make a big difference. Imagine if there are 1000 active members on az, $5 each is already $5000!

I would recommend that we spread the words out so may be we can have new members joining this forum to make donations.

Richard

Where and How

Where and how do I buy raffle tickets? I know it has to do with the V Cash but never used V Cash before, i understand what it is just never used it.

Biz, I am still getting organized with the beginning of all of this. I should have a more organized structure by the end of the day.

Just wanted to mention a donation from one of our regulars who didn't have any items to contribute.

Shorty has been trying to get a lizard wrap put on his Schon Cue and Mike Webb didn't have a cue handy that he could donate to the auction. Mike came up with a great solution though. He is installing the wrap for Shorty free of charge, and Shorty is donating the cost of the work to the fund.

So Shorty gets his wrap, Mike is able to contribute to the fund without a cue on hand, and we get an extra $200 in the fund.

Nice when everyone wins.

Thanks guys.

All it takes is for people to put their minds together & think a little bit. That's a great solution guys! TAP, TAP to Shorty & Mike W for coming up with that one! ;)

Nice gesture from both Mike and Shorty. Well done!

I am glad to see we are getting off to a good start here. :D

I don't have anything to donate but surely I will use some of my poor-student-low-income to buy some raffle tickets for the victims of Katrina. Being in Finland I need a reliable contact person to mail the money in an envelope or something. Not much to offer though...

EDIT: Nice going with the deal with Shorty and Mike ! Very clever and helpful. When there's will, there's a way.

I'm going to be playing in a tournament sunday, I wouldnt mind donating the prize money if I win. Just one question, is there any way to send a money order or something? (for the people who dont have credit cards or the like)

I'm sure that Mike could provide you with a mailing address or you could still send it paypal. As long as you have a visa ATM card or even just a checking account with no ATM card. It's pretty easy to send money online without a credit card. Either way you want to do it, I think that would a nice gesture. :)

The auction will go live on Monday with items being added over the next few weeks. (I have some items coming in after the US Open)

There is now an intro page at www.azbilliards.com/auction and the auction itself can be seen at www.azbilliards.com/cgi-bin/auction.pl

I will have more items added to the auction by Monday when I will make the link live on the front page of the site.

The bottom of the intro page should give everyone a good idea of who all has committed to items already.

I haven't had much chance to post here lately but seeing this thread I'm certain any help to those affected by Katrina is greatly appreciated.
Here in Baton Rouge we weathered the hurricane very well. Our biggest problems in BR have been with the more that doubling of our local population (from around 600000 to probably 1million+).Many folks here have relatives living in their homes (sometimes several families). The local real estate market is drying completely up with businesses and individuals relocating either permanently or temporarily. The first couple of days the extent of the damage was basically unknown (loss of communications). Having lived in Kenner (where the airport is) I can tell you that cleanup and rebuilding will have to be on a massive scale. This is going to stretch the resources the insurance industry, the state, the federal government organizations and the charities. The people here are determined though, plans are already being made for having a mini-Mardi Gras in Febuary if that gives you some idea.
Again, thank you all for your support.

Terry

Thanks for setting this up Mike. I know its not much but i'm glad i could help out a bit.

Is the PFD auction correct?

I realize that many folks on here are very generous and I applaud what you are doing, but I highly doubt there are many people who find it attractive to bid on $500 credit towards a cue when the bidding starts at $500. I spoke with Paul Drexler about this auction this weekend, and his thought was someone could win for 2 or 3 hundred, spend another 2 and get a nice, yet simple custom cue from him. I'd really like to see the bidding start lower to induce some bids. Paul was very generous with his donation of this item, and I'd hate to see it go to waste because the starting bid is so high.

Just my $0.02

Thanks again for doing this, every little bit helps.

I made a mistake when I set up the item. I just fixed it.

I don't know much about auctions but that raffle cue is quite nice,

I think that raffle is the only way to go when it comes to cues and most of the other items.Although it is early, I really don't see hardly any movement on the auctions at all.At $5 a raffle ticket EVERYONE is now included and I predict many tickets will be sold and more money raised per item raffled.

The auctions will only see a few select (rich) people take part, while the raffles will allow EVERYONE to take part in EVERY item.Furthermore the rich people already own nice cues and all of us(le$$ fortunate ones) own cues already as well.Throwing $5 or $10 towards winning another cue is not a problem for most.It gives us a chance to win another cue when we can't afford one ,or much less need one, when we already have one.

If there were several cues and other items up for raffle, I would personally spread $100 out and buy a variety of raffle tickets in that manner. As it is, there is only one cue (the predator) up for auction and I'd much rather not spend my $100 buying 20, $5 predator tickets.

If the auctions continue to go slow, I would recommend putting everything up for raffles to make more stuff available to more people.JMO, RJ
