Is it just me of has anyone else noticed a lack of Filipinos in the List? Has it just been a bad year for them or has everyone else improved much? What's up with that?

I think there's not as many pool events in America TODAY as there were when Santos and Ronnie Alcano were following the tournament trail five, six, seven years ago. That was then, and this is now.

There are more tournaments in Philippines today to keep them fat and happy, I think. Why travel to the States, spend all that money on airfare and lodging, and first place pays 5- or $10,000? It is more cost effective to play pool in Philippines for these great Filipino warriors.

You will see less and less Americans on that list because the existing lot of American pros is diminishing. The amount of infighting with various pool entities, to include tournament promoters and organizers, is slowly killing the prospect of new pool events happening in the United States.

This last year, two regional tours in my area do not seem to exist anymore, and, of course, Glass City Open, Windy City Open, as an example of annual events, ended their excellent run, providing a week-long venue for all to enjoy.

There's only a handful of Americans who are sponsored -- and I mean sponsorship with money, not product -- that can afford to travel overseas to other pool events.

As much as I'd like things to be different for American pool, the best thing happening in pool for Americans are the leagues and regional tours. Professional pool is a difficult row to hoe, unless you have corpulent stakehorses who don't like their money.
