Here are two of our latest cues.
The Devil Stick:
The first is "The Devil Stick" for our good friend, Dave. He lives a block away. I think he spends more time in our shop than at home. I bet his wife hates us. At least now he has something nice to show for it.
The forearm is curly maple but curly like I have never seen. Dave's a woodworker and brought this in from his home stash. We normally see the "tiger striped maple" but this looks more like a burl. The curl isn't organized, it's all over the place. I'm not sure how well the figure will show in these photos.
Dave said, "I want pitchforks in my cue." "Pitchforks?! Who puts pitchforks in a cue?!" Either way, you do what the customer wants. I think it turned out pretty sharp.
Specs:
Forearm: Wild Curly Maple
Pin: 3/8x10
Joint: Elphorin
Veneers: Purple/Orange/Green/White
Wrap: White/Green (I love the old school looking wraps on certain cues)
Inlays: 12 Pitchforks. Each made of 5 seperate parts for 60 total inlays.
Evil Eye:
The second is the "Evil Eye" for KOINNKID. Troy is a fun customer. He doesn't come to you with a specific design. He'll say something like "I want a Elphorin box cue" and let you head off and do whatever you want. I like that. This is easily one of my favorites to leave the shop. Strangely, they all seem to be my favorites as they are leaving
This is made from a Davis blank provided by Troy. We've pushed the blank up in the forearm so all of the bottom mitres show.
Specs:
Blank: Davis Full Splice
Veneers: Purple/Teal/Tan/White
Wrap: Black Monitor Lizard
Joint and Cap: Elphorin
Pin: 3/8x10
Inlays: 148 inlays including shafts. Ivory and Abalone for the inlay material.
And now for the pictures:
Enjoy,
