Hi everyone, I just got home from the Riviera in Vegas. The last 10 days have been filled with great pool. Although I played poorly and won very little from the casino, I had a great vacation. I met Bob and Eydie Romano and really enjoyed sweating a couple of matches with them. If any of you people can possibly make it to one of their tournaments, please do so. They will do a lot for our sport if we show them our support.
I met a lot of new people whose names and reputations I recognized, and had the pleasure watching them play. There have been comments made on this board before about league players, {about their level of play} Let me assure you there are some great 8 ball and 9 ball players at the Riviera during the month of May. Rob Mattson, Derek Mcmaster, Stan Tourangeau, Nick Kruger, Glen Atwell, Ty wilson, Steve Oaks, Brian Gregg and a multitude of other great players.
I was inducted into the VNEA Hall of Fame with 4 other guys starting with Ty Wilson from Minnesota. His team won the Masters title again and they are a great team.
Also inducted were Robert Ross from Toronto, Don Tanner from Pierre, s. Dakota, and Steve Guilford from Defiance, Ohio.
I watched the womens amateur player of the year Tammie Jones Play some absolutely great pool and win the 8 ball title again. In one match her opponent only had one shot in a race to 6 -8 ball as Tammie ran out every turn at the table. Her final match she won 6-0 playing loser break.
I also had the pleasure of playing in the scotch doubles with a young lady from Iowa. Her name is Jessica Frideres. I was very impressed with her abilities at the table and know we will see her name a lot in the future.
Sorry this got so long, It's great to be back home. Sam

Sam welcome back home .Great job of being inducted into the VNEA Hall of fame.

Wasn't long enough, Sam.

Regretably, I couldn't make it, Sam so I enjoyed hearing what happened. Sounds like a great time. Congratulations on all the good stuff coming your way.

Thanks guys, My team did pretty good too. I couldn't play with them because of my master ranking. They placed 13 thru 16 out of close to 600 teams. It was miserable watching them play all those matches and not being able to help them. That's why I'm trying to get on a team with Steve Oaks and some of those guys next year. We had a lot of fun though. Sam

Sorry to say but ...

Ms. Kia Kapponna of Bradenton Florida

won the Womans 8 ball open as well as placing on the All Star Team
All of us here in town are very proud of her and Mr Steve Knoll for coming in second in the men's open 8 ball to represent our league

Regards,
Joe

Hi Joe, I guess I should have been more specific. Tammie knocked off the Masters 8-ball. I'm still a little jet lagged and sometimes I forget to put in the divisions. Congratulations to your friends. I saw Steve play part of his match in the finals. Great players the both of them. Sam

Hey Sam and All,

Yes, it was a very exciting time in Vegas for the past month. Bob and I have been very busy trying to meet our players and promote all of the events that we are now involved with. We spent hours a day passing out business cards and talking with the players. We brought a total of 10,000 business cards to pass out and left with under 1000. I hope that we made a dent with them, and they were not just bird cage liner.

It was a true pleasure to meet you Sam and all the players. Sam was inducted into the Hall of Fame at VNEA and after meeting him, I know they made a good choice in their selection. This was the first time that Bob and I attended VNEA. I had heard that it was a really fun, action packed event and they weren't kidding. Somewhere in-between the 2 pool (swimming) parties and the mega Beer and Chips Mixer, there were some excellent matches to watch.

This was a huge year for the BCA events. Loads of players and attendees. I am confident that next year will bring most of the loyal players back for more.

In addition to The Midwest Expo/Open and The Windy City Open, Bob and I ware working with Mark Griffin to promote The BCA 9 Ball Championships this coming November 16 ~ 21, at The Plaza Hotel, in luxurious downtown Las Vegas, Nev. (Luxurious, did you like that one? lol, just threw it in cause it sounded good!) This venue includes the National 9 Ball event along with The US Open One Pocket Tournament, Bank Tournament, Mixed and 3 man team events and a 10 Ball event.

I thoroughly enjoyed meeting everyone at both BCA and VNEA. At my events, I don't get to spend much time with the players since I have so many behind the scenes things going on.

Glad to be finally home!

Eydie

Satman,

Lucky you for getting such a good partner....How'd you and Jessica finish?

I ask because I live in the same town she does and have played against her in the VNEA state 9 ball tourney and watched her play elsewhere.

BTW, her husband is the one you'll hear about (if he doesn't go to Iraq and not return). He is an excellent shotmaker and his wife plays a lot like him, too. Kinda rare for two great shooters to be married to each other. I think they each won the state Masters singles this year.

One other thing that Jessica really made me think about that I'm missing in my game: emotion. I've never met anyone who dislikes losing as much as she does (as you probably noticed when (if) you two lost---I don't want to embarass her on this board with the details, but you know what I'm saying, I suppose). I wish I wanted to win so bad that I could react like she does to losing. Some of the other women players around here make fun of her for her behavior, but I see it as a positive. I guess I just don't want to win as much as she does, so maybe I'm not putting my full talent into my games. It's the "pleasure of small motions" paradigm that gets in my way of winning sometimes.

Jeff, She must have kept her emotions in check for this tournament. The only thing I seen her do when she missed a ball was sit down in her chair and try to refocus. I didn't really see her lose the singles matches so I can't say how she reacted. The first match I watched her play was a hill match and she pulled out the win like a champion.
That match was going on right between 2 matches I was sweating and I was talking with a guy I had played in the singles. Jerrod happened to be standing behind me and got in the conversation. I found out they couldn't play together and made an offer to play. We drew a team we should have beat, but we caught some unfortunate rolls and lost. She has a standing offer from me to play scotch doubles at any tournament we run into each other. They are both very nice people and played some great pool all week. Oh yea, when we lost in the scotch doubles she took it quite well. I would be surprised to see anything different. Sam
