Hello ,

I ended up with a new nice 2/4 case made by action. It was gave to me and it is brand new but the only problem I have with it is that the cues sit to low inside the holes and you ha e to dump the case over to get them out. A few years ago a nice fellow from this very forum sent me 2 bags of backer rod cut to exact measurements for the butt and shaft holes to make them taller. Is there anything in backer rod that would react with the finish to n a cue. The backer rod just feels like stiff foam. I did not know if any finish problems ever came from using backer rod. I remember people recommended this a few years ago but never tried. Thanks

Buy some moldable plastic pellets and mold them into extra-long joint protectors that will make your cue reach to the top of the case.

Cork works great as a space filler in pool cue cases- the type of cork you see in wine bottles. It should be a diameter smaller than your pool case tubes so that it can be removed if desired. Both ends of the cork should be sealed and they will last a lifetime. You can wrap the cork tightly in cellophane to seal it. Cork adds no weight to the case.

Whitten cases use a rubber spacer over the springs at the bottom of the holes. You can customize the length with a utility knife.

I don't know what backer rod is but if your cue sits on top of it then they should be fine.

We make spacers that one can use with no tools needed to insert and remove.

Look for them on our website. They are good for cases with flexible cavity interiors.

Backer rod is a foam like round tube that is used to seal windows and air gaps. It is the exact size of the butt and there is a size exact for the shaft as well. Here is a pic of it. A nice fella from the forum here sent me 2 bags of both exact sizes to fit the butt side and shaft side. You just cut what you need.

Thanks John for the link , I plan on buying the ne of your cases as I believe they are the best in the market. JB cases are Top notch

Makes for good ear plugs, too.

If you put the tip and butt DOWN in your case, you'll be fine. I learned this the hard way when a soft case bottom broke open and spilled my cue, both the shaft and butt joints down, onto the concrete.

How do you get it out, if need be?

That would be a problem , You would problay not be able to get it out . but then again why would you want to . it would serve its purpose in making the cue taller to ease of removal
What if you got rid of that cue and got a longer cue?

In a word, yes.

Closed cell will off gas. Open cell will absorb moisture. These are absolutes.
To what degree or how much, if any damage it may possibly cause is unknown, or how bad it will mess with your game.

My new case allowed the shafts to go too deep into it.

I tried a backer rod but, because the bottom of the shaft holders doesn't reach the bottom of the case, it fell out of place.

So, I took maybe 12 inches of the stuff and cut it into little pieces and poured those down into my case to the bottom.

It works great! I had to add a few more cut pieces to make it perfect, but no more turning the case upside down to get out a shaft.
