Backstroke Tempo

I’m excited because I finally figured out how to sucessfully slow down my backstroke. This has to be the most difficult fundamental to master. It just never feels natural to pull back slow and steady before firing a hard shot.

I’m not sure why but something just clicked tonight and I found the perfect tempo. It feels like drawing back a bow and arrow and then releasing. And the slow backstroke helps lock in your aim leading up the release.

Hopefully I can recall the tempo tomorrow lol

A poor transition from backwards to forwards (jerking the cue), and tight grip are the true enemies of a great stroke. ALL poolplayers stop at the end of their backswings...ALL. It's just a matter of how long they pause (me = 2/10ths of a second...Buddy = something between 2 and 3 whole seconds). The real key is a smooth transition and a loose cradle. Jerry Briesath and Randyg have a saying that I love, and believe...EVERYBODY backswings too fast; and EVERYBODY shoots too hard! LOL
