Bad rep

Yes, I did from reading your previous posts. I agree that having red rep is analogous to having the scarlet letter. No matter what you say or do, all people can see is the red.

What subject and age group do you teach?

I don't know about anyone else, but I gave you red for your comment about George Rood, who is indeed a genius in every disipline of Billiards.

My comment was not intended to be about Mr. Rood, whom I know absolutely nothing about. I'm sure he's a wonderful person. My comment was merely about acknowleging that all of our knowlege of pool evolves from the experience, the dedication, and teachings of those that came before us and is not the invention of any one contemporary individual.
I expressed that idea poorly.

two ways

Hu, How can you tell how many rep points other people have. I haven't been able to find that anywhere? Not that it's all that important, just curious?

You can't see how many points they have directly. However I can look at the names on the first page of the members list when I stack it in order of rep and see seventeen names in alphabetical order. Once the rep counter display maxes out the list reverts to alphabetical order so I know that all of these people have over 2.147 Billion points, I think is the max off the top of my head.

Two options to detect roughly the rep other people have: One is you can see where they are at in the list in relationship to people whom you know well enough to simply ask them their rep number. The other thing is if you keep up with your rep count closely you can tell exactly how much rep somebody else gave you. I don't remember the exact percentage of the person's rep that they give out and it varies slightly from person to person for some reason. The number might be closer to 1.2% or even more. Smorg was indeed the rep master and he worked out most of these things.

Of course you can simply ask most people and they are happy to tell you their rep count if they know it. The list defaults to thirty names a page and I suspect in six or eight months everyone on the first page will be maxed out in rep. I find that pretty pleasing. I never was in the rep race for myself but I did play the game to support Smorg when it was one of his few pleasures. I have to admit that is one reason my reputation is maxed out. I'll never know if it would be maxed out on merit or not now.

I just gave you a greenie, daveb, and you know why? Because you said thanks.
No bad deed goes unpunished; no good deed goes unrewarded.
A penny saved is a penny earned.
A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.
A wink is as good as a nod to a blind horse.
(Somebody help me, I can't stop).
In the land of the blind the one-eyed man is king.
A rolling stone gathers no moss.
(Help, please).
An apple a day keeps...
