Bad Roadside Apples!

It's kinda of funny how most of the cuemakers on this site think they know and have the best sticks around. I purchased a cue from a maker for the first time on Az, and when it got to me the black epoxy that was filled in the burl was popping out of the cue. The shaft was the size of a tree trunk, maybe good for breaking. It hit like crap, looked like crap, and the shaft rolled on the table llike a wounded minnow. The fit and finish was horrible. It was a superglue finish which frankly sucks IMHO. That crap is for makers that can't do a real clear finish. Hmmm... I'm not looking for cues that have bragging rights because of someone's name or supposed reputation, I'm looking for frickin' cues that hit right AND look good. And after that the maker decides to post up what a real bummer it was that the guy sent it back and in an email said I was picking the s__t off the pepper. It's more like I was picking the tiny pieces of pepper out of the s__t. Thanks anyways guys. I have a local cuemaker here in the metro area that makes cues that hit great and are structuraly sound and they look great. And funny thing is you don't see any of them on this site for sale because the people that own them wont give em up and the maker's cues are all sold before he ever gets them finished without the help of this site or ebay. Hmmmmm...I think I'll stick to the lakes and rivers that I know! MCCR

when you were younger you must have built a model car in one afternoon.

Yes - I go for speed above all else which is more than i can say for most of my fellow Cue Makers!! So It's kind of a give and take situation. I had to take a lot away from your stick to meet the time constraints. Next time dont expect 3 week delivery on a custom cue and i dont appreciate these efforts to sully my pristine reputation.

Do you have any pictures of your cue? I have never heard of a superglue finish.

Is speed more important then quality? Im no cue maker but 3 weeks seems pretty fast.

3 weeks is pretty quick....I had mine done in 6-7 weeks and it was put together very well... It probably depends on if the cuemaker has a bunch of cues in the works, or if they make 1 cue at a time and put total focus in your cue.

I didn't order this cue. I saw it up for sale. Unlike building thread protectors cues should take a long time to build properly especially cue shafts. A cut here and let it sit. A cut there and let it sit. Trying to belt out a bunch of cues for the sole purpose of making only money turns out to be just that only profit not good sticks.

Was it for directly from the cuemaker brand new, OR was it used that someone else bought and was re selling? If it was from the cuemaker direct brand new, did you try to contact them to correct it before making this thread?

Folks:

If the cue was shipped back and the transaction was refunded -- all in a timely manner -- what's the point of this thread? To sully a cuemaker's reputation because someone was miffed they didn't get their "hurry hurry hurry, I have to have it" needs met?

And the title of the thread says it all, too -- "Bad roadside apples." If you're disappointed by the quality of the apples you bought roadside (and the quality of the apples was important enough for you to post about the experience), why did you buy them roadside to begin with?

I don't know Nostroke nor his products; I'm not trying to categorize his product; and I am certainly have no details about what transpired (especially in other subforums) between you two. But if I did a transaction with him, wasn't satisfied with the product, but he refunded me in a timely manner after I returned the product, I certainly wouldn't write about the experience here in such a negative manner. You did your job by returning the product; he did his by refunding you quickly. You both are on equal ground.

If you didnt order this cue and He said he had to rush to make your time line are you guys talking about the same cue?

thanks ref, but this cue was up for sale as new. After receiving it it was obviously not new. Ferrule had chalk marks from someone that doesn't know how to chalk a cue let alone build one. Sorry if you find this offensive. I guess ones man's treasure is another man's junk huh?

I agree that if you work really hard at it and polish like there is no tomorrow, you can do it.... Heck u can make one appear to be a diamond.... LOL just ask my ex-wife.... polished and polished on that one.... Everyone believed she was a diamond.... She still was a turd in the end though... LMAO

I picked the wood for my custom cue and we decided what rings and such to put on it and i got it a year later...from a cue maker here in Michigan. I love my Elite Custom Cues player. Dave

Research is the key to a good experience most of the time, especially with custom cues. Being upset is understandable, but bashing anyone after they have made the situation right monetarily is in bad taste. If this were a case of payment made and no cue received, or plane 'ole no resolution was offered, then I agree post the facts. In the end, be glad you got your money back, and the cuemaker was willing to refund.
