Bakersfield, CA Pool & Area

I have never been to our office down there but I guess it is in west Bakersfield, north of Rosedale Hwy between Hwy 99 and Coffee Road. Looks like The Links at Riverlakes Ranch golf course is close by.

There are a couple of nice homes I saw on the Century 21 site for $299K which may be swingable if they meet my demands. *rubs hands together manically*

I work for an Industrial Painting Company and we paint various tank farms/terminals/pump stations throughout the valley including a lot of shop work at our facility. Most of my time will be driving around looking at various projects. Coalinga, Kern River, etc, etc.

Gonna type up a letter this weekend and see what they say. All they can do is say no and find someone else right? :)

I guess there have been a few guys from Bakersfield, but still not many at all for city with that size poplulation. I guess I was comparing it to similar sized cities such as Sacramento, Anaheim, Riverside, and Modesto. All these towns had better pool scenes than Bakersfield. Its just not a town I've heard anyone ever talking about stopping at a particular room in town when driving through.
 
I played in an APA tournament out there last year and I enjoyed it. The town is a desert town but it does have modern malls, theaters, etc.
We had dinner at the Outback and met some really nice people at the bar there.

Most places turn out to be exactly what you expect so if you expect it to be great it will be and if you expect it to suck it will.
People are people every where I have been and so I know that for a fact you will find exactly what you are looking for....that makes it all up to you.
 
Yes, I agree that my response should be taken with a grain of salt as I don't live in Bakersfield. But I have been there about 20 times in the last couple of years. I have friends who live there and my daughter plays softball tournaments there every year.

I am just stating that IF I had a choice, there are many places I would rather choose to live. Just outside of Bakersfield on Kern County Road, the 178 to Lake Isabella, there are many big beautiful homes being built, nice area too.

There are alot of things to do around Bakersfield and some nice mountains and steams, tec. to visit. But, from where I live, there are 100's of things to do within 1 hour's drive.

Yeah I have viewed quite a few nice homes up towards Lake Isabelle and also off the connection of 223 and 58. However those are on the complete opposite side of town that my office is and may make a hell of a commute in traffic. I may be wrong of course since I have never been there.

I will be pondering it this weekend and working on a letter to the owners. There are alot of items that ave to be brought up and agreed upon before I make the decision. This all may lead to nothing because I will want the world but if they cave in then $%*&#)@(#$*$&#. :D :D :D

There is a beautiful neighborhood of homes just West of downtown and East off the 99 Freeway, North of 24th Street. Also look at some of the older homes off Oleander Avenue just South of downtown. Some really good deals there. And some large homes on big lots. We just sold a home we owned there for years on A St.

If you're looking for action in Bakersfield you only need check out the bar scene. Dozens and dozens of bars with gobs of players. And some of them have bucks too. You will get played! Or go to the Cue Ball and ask for Mike the owner. Tell him Jay sent you. I used to play an oilman named J.D. over in Oildale at Trouts (may still be there). We played $50 Eight Ball in the 70's, no small bet. And he could play too. I also played in a No Limit Low Ball game at the Blackboard Bar owned by Buck Owens. Many wealthy businessman played in the game and I was the youngster. Some nights I won thousands and a few times they got me too.

They still have a few cardrooms there too. And definitely check out the Basque restaurants. SUPERB! You will enjoy driving around to the small towns you mention. There is little traffic and interesting scenery. You will find INDIVIDUALS living in Bakersfield. Guys with reptile farms in their back yards. People with ten diiferent kinds of fruit tree growing on their property, and gardens with all kinds of good stuff sprouting. And you get free samples, if they like you. People do things up there that they can't in cities like L.A.

Don't forget Frank "the card dealer" was from the area. He was dangerous on his home court, beating up on some of the best LA players. Don't know what ever happened to him.

There is a tremendous number of houses in the area your business is located, and now that the housing market in Bakersfield is slumping you will probably have a nice selection to choose from. I was born and raised in Bakersfield and my sister and father live in the area you described.
 
Yo> Can you have a visit before your decision? You have to really consider what the job change will add to your skills and background. My uncle lived there for 10 years and I visited him often on my trips going back to Vegas and LA. I did not mind the hot summers and cold foggy winters (the entire central valley has these temps)...but remember, you are only a couple hours from LA (and take a drive over to Vegas) to get some great POOL "Action".
