The Cue Ball

The Pool Table Co. is pretty good. They have about 2 tables only there and the felt is pretty nice. Not in a great neighborhood, though. If you want someone to play with or any food, go to Corner Pocket.
Did you ever hear of the original Cue Ball at 19th and Chester downtown.
I owned it in the 1970's and played a lot of good players who came thru.
Jimmy Marino, Wade Crane, Keith, Ronnie, Waterdog, Lovita, Larry Lisciotti, Danny Jones, Artesia Kenny, Cuban Joe, Peter Gunn, Billy Ray, Cole, Jim Williams, Gabby, New York Blackie and Danny D. to name a few. Eufala used to come in and practice when he was visiting his daughter who lived in Bakersfield.
I played anyone who walked thru the door and didn't ask for weight too often (Keith gave me the wild 8, Danny 8-5, Cole gave me 9-6 and Ronnie 8-4, well what do you expect?). I won money from some of the above and donated to some of the others. My room was on every roadman's map.
My best win was beating Billy Ray a Race To Eleven when he had me down 9-2. He went berserk and broke his cue. Only $200, but so satisfying. He came back later and apologized to me for acting crazy.
Many players told me it was the best poolroom on the West Coast at the time. I know we were full every night (with 22 Gold Crown I's) and packed on the weekends. Sold it in 1976 after a divorce and moved back down to L.A. Mike Francis used to play there (and was pretty good). He called me years later and asked if he could use that name for his poolroom. Sure, why not. I was flattered that he would ask.
