Mack, If you do any barbox I reccomend Banachecks. Just off the 99 at Olive. There is a pretty nice Pool hall further east on Olive. Shooters I think. Downtown is the 8-ball kind of rough area. The one right by Sears can't remember the name! will be the closest. Have fun!

What happened to the Cue Ball on Rosedale Hwy. Is it still there?

Cue Ball is still there. I really don't play there at all (especially since a couple of people were stabbed in the parking lot) but I see people there. My favorite would be Corner Pocket on Ming Ave. Take the 99 back south from California and get off on Ming Ave. Veer left so the offramp will curl back around and head east. It's right behind the gas station and the Big 5 almost immediately on the left. Stay away from downtown area as things really get rough there.

Yes, the Corner Pocket, That is the one across the street from Sears.

As I faintly recall, there's one really nice place to play on 701 19'th Street just off of Chester Ave., near the city center. Only soft drinks are served - no alcohol. Formerly called FAMILY BILLIARDS, it's now known as the POOL TABLE COMPANY. Check that one out.

The Pool Table Co. is pretty good. They have about 2 tables only there and the felt is pretty nice. Not in a great neighborhood, though. If you want someone to play with or any food, go to Corner Pocket.

The last time I went by the place was around 1999 and the last time I played there was in '89. At that time at least eight 9-footers occupied the place.

Why only two tables? What occupies the rest of the place? BTW I'm originally from Ridgecrest, located about 110 miles east of BKS.

Did you ever hear of the original Cue Ball at 19th and Chester downtown.
I owned it in the 1970's and played a lot of good players who came thru.
Jimmy Marino, Wade Crane, Keith, Ronnie, Waterdog, Lovita, Larry Lisciotti, Danny Jones, Artesia Kenny, Cuban Joe, Peter Gunn, Billy Ray, Cole, Jim Williams, Gabby, New York Blackie and Danny D. to name a few. Eufala used to come in and practice when he was visiting his daughter who lived in Bakersfield.

I played anyone who walked thru the door and didn't ask for weight too often (Keith gave me the wild 8, Danny 8-5, Cole gave me 9-6 and Ronnie 8-4, well what do you expect?). I won money from some of the above and donated to some of the others. My room was on every roadman's map.

My best win was beating Billy Ray a Race To Eleven when he had me down 9-2. He went berserk and broke his cue. Only $200, but so satisfying. He came back later and apologized to me for acting crazy.

Many players told me it was the best poolroom on the West Coast at the time. I know we were full every night (with 22 Gold Crown I's) and packed on the weekends. Sold it in 1976 after a divorce and moved back down to L.A. Mike Francis used to play there (and was pretty good). He called me years later and asked if he could use that name for his poolroom. Sure, why not. I was flattered that he would ask.
