10 or 20 yeas ago there were alot of cuemakers that could make a passable counterfeit. How many did it with the intent to deceive? The world may never know. But if you could make a shorty splice OR had access to a hoppe or spain blank, you could do it. Hell, it could go on today, but it would be harder since more people are educated on what to look for. But the materials have changed. the run of the mill slotted diamonds are not the same, try finding cortland, lots of things. I have a box of original brown Brunswick bumpers (not for sale).

I am sure some of them were made with the intent to pass as an original and was wondering if anyone had ever got caught red handed.
I have been asked if I could make a cue that looked like another cuemakers work a few times. Uasualy by someone wanting an expensive cue but not having the money for the real thing.
I have made one or two cues that looked simuliar or had common elements as another cuemakers work (see my avitar ... Cog style rings) but with enough diferences that no one would be fooled ... and they are plainly marked WILLEECUE.

Very interesting question. Unfortunately, I don't think that you'll get many forthcoming answers. At times I've heard various things about fake Bushkas being made in the mid 80s and sold overseas. I'm sure there are some there and some here in the states. Haven't heard that any passers-were "caught". I'd be curiuos to see if anyone chimes in on this. I think those in the know would rather this die a quick death.

Well I can say that Verl Horn made a great knock off, in fact they are refered to as HornyBushkas, there are some others. I don't know if anyone got caught. I know today, Tascarella could make one and fool the best person, as could quite a few others. But its not really worth it, to get caught, you couldn't live it down. But there is still a market for old school looks, as shown in a recent thread. So inevitably you will have some guys making Bushkaesque cues.

Exactly.. rumors are rumors. Until names get thrown in the mix, it's not even worth discussing, having been victimized by cowardess rumors, I can tell you if someone says something and doesn't attribute a name, 99.9% of the time, its false. Thats my opinion anyways.
I will say it again, people in glass houses should not throw stones. I don't care if you copied or borrowed some design elements, once you do it, you cannot ask for protection 10,20 or 30 years down the road.
