Ball on rail

I was wondering , I know if a ball touchs the wood on a rail it is considered off the table, but has anyone ever heard/seen a ball go up on the rail, not touch the wood, and stay there ? Maybe run atop a cushion to the corner where 1 or 2 balls already are and stay up there ? I guess it would be legal right ?
 
Roberto Rojas does a trick shot were the cue ball runs the length of the long rail while remaining on the cushion only.Is it legal in a match?

The rule in a match is that if the cue ball stays on the cloth of the cushion and does not touch the wood, it's OK. If it touches the wood, it's a foul. You only get credit for one cushion contact for going up on the rail even if the ball bounces visibly.

Ok, I understand the rule, but has anyone ever done it or seen where a ball stays up on the rail ?

I have done it a few times, never on purpose, but always beginning with an elevated cue close to the first object ball -- the cueball climbs the first ball and traversed the long rail for some feet before returning to the bed -- never scored doing it however.
