Balls are getting scuffed

I have a 9ft Diamond pro-am. Every time I hit balls with some authority the balls get black scuff marks on them. Anybody else having this problem?

I have a Diamond Pro (not the Pro Am model), but I think the leather at the back and top of the pockets might be the same. A ball banging hard into the pocket will pick up a dark smudge from the leather. I've had the table for 3 years, and still get the smudge.

Diamond Pro

I have a Diamond Pro as well and every once in a while I notice a few of the balls are getting some black marks. It doesn't happen often but sucks to look at when racking the balls.

Look guys, any table using leather pockets is subject to leave scuff marks on the balls, this problem is not limited to just Diamond tables. What I've done in the past as well as what I recommend, is go out and get you a bottle of Kiwi black/brown shoe polish, depending on what color your pockets are. Make sure it's the "Polish" and not the dye or scuff cover polish. When pockets are finished off in just the dye, the dye will come off on the balls when they are fired into the pockets hard. What the polish does is put a wax finish over the top of the dyed leather therefore creating a barrier between the balls and the dye of the leather, which stops the scuffing of the balls. Polishing the pockets with the wax stops the scuffing of the balls plain and simple.

PS. Make sure to let it dry first before you start firing balls into the pockets again.

scuffed balls

When I first opened my billiard room, I couldn't afford a ball cleaner. We built a little box and lined it with carpeting. We threw the balls in the box and used a orbital car buffer. We used pledge, armarol, car wax, whatever. The ball looked beautiful. We kept getting these scuffs on the balls. When we finally got the Budworth ball cleaner and his polish the scuffs stopped. What are you using to clean your balls? That may be the source of your problems.
