Balls getting chiped

Hi All, I have a gandy pro 8 with nail in pockets, is there a way to change this? the nails are chipping my super pro balls

You might try velcro. A local pool hall owner used velcro to hold her pockets. I'd throw 3-4 staples into the side on the wood and clean the backside of the pocket with lanolin free alcohol before sticking on the velcro. This will take up about 1/4 inch of space for the velcro so make sure there is enough top lip on the pocket to hide the vecro.

Another fix is to use paneling nails and tuck them under the lip. Drive them deep enough so you can't feel the head and the chips should stop. The ring shank of the paneling should prevent them from backing out.

Maybe even put a dab of silicon over the nail heads. If you go to an automotive store you can get a small tube of gasket maker which is thicker than regular silicon. Many of the newer cars when you order valve cover or oil pan gaskets you get a tube of gasket maker, even from the dealer. In the Permatex brand the Right Stuff would be what you need.

Use the correct pocket nails and it will stop.

Those nails are not designed to be put in and taken out, it tears up the wood where there mounted pulling them out, as well as the pocket liner for the most part. Need to use 17 gage, 1" wire nails, then don't mount them where the balls hit.

no more nicked balls

I used a few of these on some nail heads and it stopped the balls from getting nicked up.

The 17 gauge nail will be like a hotdog down a hallway, the old Gandy prob has had countless nails pounded in the end of the rail.

Wouldn't be surprised if the end of the rail does not look like it's been at a woodpecker party'
On a fresh rail, that nail you suggest will work but you'll want to get the nails with barbs near the tip of the shank because it don't take much to pull out those smooth straight shank nails..

I've got about 4 or 5 different nails I keep on hand and use considering the table..nail placement in the liner has much reflection on how well it holds to.

The ring-shank nails are ones that tear out wood, the spiral nails will need to be turned as they are removed and you won't get tear out.
