Balls Rolling Off?

On my 27 year old Valley 7’ table, shooting softly or slow rolling balls down the rails hugging them or 3” off rail the OB drifts away from the rail on all four corner pockets. Also when shooting softly in the center pockets from straight in or from an angle I have to aim over an inch from center pocket to make the ball. Could this be anything else but a warped slate? Thank you in advance. Johnnyt

Was all the glue scraped off the slate when it was felted? Also did you ever see the center supports? May want to check these?

The mechanic was taking the old glue off, hopefully he got it all. It just seems like it's warped to me as the balls roll toward the middle of the table when hit slow. Johnnyt

I also have a "new to me" older valley table that was made in 1979 according to the serial number. I talked to my local mechanic about reclothing the table with Simonis 860 and he said "good luck". He said that the faster cloths tend to accentuate roll offs - if the slate has any warping, etc. - and that many older valleys have this issue. I guess I'll be finding out - I already bought the 860 to install.

This is just a thought, but if you're on a budget like I am, you may want to consider choosing a nap or slower cloth the next time you recover. It tends to minimize the roll offs, at least so I was told.

Good luck...

the older Valley's are built better than the no ones
