Bamboo in cues

I recently was looking at wood flooring and was informed that what i thought was cherrywood was actually bamboo.I was also told that they are making cabinets and all kinds of stuff that you never would of thought of as being made from bamboo.
Would it be practical to make a cue from it? I asked this on another site but most were not cuemakers.

Bamboo is finding its way back into contemporary construction finishing. This is because of newfound ways to laminate bamboo (which is actually grass and not a tree) into boards and possibly beams.

While I believe bamboo can be used for inlay or overlay material for a pool cue I was pleasantly surpised to learn that one of our cuemaker members here is looking into creating bamboo laminates for shaft material. I hope he succeeds, because in an environmental and economical perspective we all benefit.

How do you confuse Bamboo with Cherry? I have seen a rare antique cue that is made of "faux" Bamboo. If available, look on page 228 of Stellinga's book for a picture.

Sheeesh, as a renewable resource it would be hard to beat.

Look at the lumber industry, hot expensive the wood is becoming.
If they can find a way to make engennered beams from bamboo, I can think of several major advantages.

I am very curious to see what bamboo would look like in a cue though.

I'd imagine just very fine, straight grain. Maybe dyed?

Did you know that bamboo is the fastest growing plant on earth and can grow up to 38" per day.

I could be wrong but years ago I read that Ramin wood, that many of the very cheap Chinese cues shafts are made from, is a relative of the bamboo family.

It definitely grows fast. I have some Giant Timber Bamboo(Phyllostachys Vivax) planted in my front yard and it was only a foot high in May now it is over 12' and still growing. when it is mature it can get up to 10" in diameter and 60'-80' high. For inlay purposes it would almost have to be dyed because when it is dried out is a white or yellow color that has almost no grain. I bought it when I was up in Tacoma and brought it back to Salt Lake with me because you can't find this species or almost any species for that matter anywhere here.
