We had a black fella come through town last night offering to play, so one of our local guys played him cause I got there too late. Anyways, he wanted to play either bank pool or one pocket, so our guy chose bank pool. I believe they ended up breaking even cause our guy has never played bank pool...Neither have I, before today! The fella went by the name "patch eye" from LA...But the owner was there and he knows the "real" "patch eye" and said this guy wasn't him...So they talked and it turns out this guy knows the "real" "patch eye" too! Would anyone here know who this guy may have been? Anyways, I played bank pool today for the first time ever against our guy who played this fella last night. I NEVER expected to do any well, I just wanted to try it, but after 2 hrs. of play WE broke even also! That game is a ton of fun! I like the game for one main reason...There's no luck involved like there is 9 ball. I guess you can't play combos, caroms, nothing...The ball has to go clean, or at least thats what we were told AND how we played. If there is anyone who could explain the REAL rules to me, I'd really appreciate it and leave you good rep points for doing so. Thanks guys, Jeff

I think the rules are in the BCA rulebook. Not sure those rules are the ones used by most, though.

Dukeboy, I will do my best. You can choose either full or short rack banks. short rack is racked the same as nine ball, full is racked like 8 ball(all 15). In either game, you have to pocket each ball clean, (no caroms, kicks, combos etc). If the cue ball or object ball goes off the table, or you scratch, you foul and have to put one of your (made) balls up on the spot. If you dont have a legally pocketed ball, you owe one when you do make one. First man in shortrack to make 5 balls wins and first man to make 8 balls in full rack wins. Also, you have to hit an object ball and make a rail or this is also a foul and loss of a ball. It is an awesome game and Im hooked as well. Im lucky here near Chicago, I see a lot of really good bankers at Red Shoes in Alsip IL. Piggy and Freddy, John Zakksas and many others. Hopefully this helps. Deacon

No Chris, the only other thing he had with him was a short white lady whom I assume is his girlfriend or wife, due to their affectionate display at times. UH...a moustache tightly trimmed, bald head, NO SOCKS but wore like dress shoes, uh....a 4 point cue I believe was a little older joss but don't quote me on that, I didn't get a good enough look to be sure. It has 4 ebony points with white (ivory?) inlays inside them, and a darker stained forearm, I believe it had a plain ebony buttsleeve, but again, not sure so don't quote me. s/s joint though. He played ok from what I saw, but I was told when he was practicing by himself before they played, he was just barely missing 4 rail banks . I'd really like to know who this is or could be, any help would be appreciated.

If you broke even with him and never played the game before, he was nobody, plain and simple. There is too much to know about banks.

That said, you didn't mention the $amt he was betting either. If he can play, he's definitely playing your room.

It is just like 1hole when there is a ball sitting in one of the other 4 holes. It becomes somewhat strategic. Unlike 1h, the ball hanging in the hole effectively eliminates the pocket as an option.

make it while pocketing another ball, or defensively. if there's already a ball on the spot it's pretty safe.

To score though, you cannot make the hanger with an OB, it must be w/ the CB.

Balls must be pocketed cleanly, to count.

i never mentioned scoring, only a way to get the ball out of that position. the ball will, of course, spot up at the end of your turn (or when there's no other balls left), and you only shoot again if you ALSO made a clean bank.

Go back and read the first post...I didn't play him, my buddy played HIM, I played my buddy the day after. I'm sure he wasn't anybody big, but after I was told about his practice session I got really intrigued to find out who this guy was/is. What they bet don't really matter, though it wasn't that low. If he was anyone worth mentioning, he was really trying to get a bigger game from somebody, but he left too soon to really find out. I'm sure he'll be back soon if he's in town to gamble, and if not, he left us a great game to learn!

That said, you didn't mention the $amt he was betting either. It is of utmost relevance. If the visitor can play, he's definitely playing your room.
