Banks Money Match: Gary Spaeth vs. "Bugs" Rucker

This from the L.A. Open in 1993. It was an All Around tournament with One Pocket first, then Banks and finally 9-Ball. Steve Cook won the One Pocket and 10K and promptly went home. He beat Mark Tadd in the finals. Mark then won the Banks and 9-Ball. His total winnings for the week was $26,000!!!

Many of the Pro players boycotted the event thanks to Don Mackey. Afterwards a few expressed their regrets (Nick, C.J., Earl) when they saw the big money that was paid out. Too bad is how I felt. At the time, I felt like they had betrayed me. But that's another story.

Could you elaborate on what Don Mackey did? I started middle school that year so I didn't hear about it.;-)
