Bar leagues how busy and how loud?

WTF?????????????? Have you ever been in a bar??????? They are what they are. From funeral quiet to thrash-metal loud.

Mainly I need something to do so I am not bored and so I can meet new people.

I am 31 I thought you were similar in age to me and so I thought our views would meet up more.

Part of me is thinking I am being to hasty.

Well, perhaps you are being too hasty, perhaps not. Real life is different than internet chit-chat. I'm also over a thousand miles away from you, if I recall where you've said you are located...

I am not 31, I have a son nearer that age than I am. I have many, many friends in that age group, tho. Many of them I met through playing in our pool league. We get along quite well, and most are shocked to learn what my age is when someone blurts it out. We often do things outside of pool league, too, or used to before Covid.

Being the old so-and-so that I am, I have some perspective, along with experience. I try and share that. If you aren't receptive to it, no loss, just ignore me and move along. Despite being in that older demographic, I totally get people wanting to have fun, to drink and listen to music while they are out for the evening. We have plenty of people who play league that don't drink, but still play league with us. But when you are in a bar or pool room where alcohol is sold, "loud" is likely going to be part of the experience.

If you don't like the social environment that league provides, you should probably try and come up with a different option to satisfy your pool playing interest.

I’d say it’s the same as anything you see in Color of Money. And your hair better be perfect.

So I guess to answer what I think is busy I would say depending on the bar 10 or 20 people not related to playing pool in the bar while we are playing pool. And as for loudness if I have to talk over other people or music it is too loud. All league play will be too loud for you!

I enjoy it just on 9 foot tables at a place that is open from 9 am till 1 am. No place exists like that where I live. Like I told you...MOVE SOMEWHERE ELSE!!!

Thanks for answering. I am wondering how bar 1 can be very busy and yet quiet? Can you give any estimate on numbers of how many people other than league players are there?

Mainly I need something to do so I am not bored and so I can meet new people. The bar is not the right place to "meet new people". Try the library, church, or some social media.I am 31 I thought you were similar in age to me and so I thought our views would meet up more.

You're ALWAYS too hasty!

Honestly, you should just take two weeks off, and then quit. You complain about other players, venues, playing conditions...and every other nit thing you can think of. You may be 31, but your posting history smacks of a 12 year looking for attention.

Have I complained about other players?

If you stick to playing in a quiet environment that most likely means there are not many people around, how will you meet new people if there are not that many people around??????:confused::confused::confused:

This is kind of confusing.

Meet 5 people or so who are there all the time and that you never knew existed.

Sooo, after you se them the first time they aren't 'new' anymore. Then what? Go to a different bar that only has 5 people in it? You realize that bars with only 5 people in them aren't going to be around very long.

All depends on the bar, most have loud music but how busy it is completely depends on the bar. I've been to some where the bar isn't too busy, just the regulars come in. Others have been pretty busy.

I'd say just go to the league and check it out before joining. If it's not your vibe, then leave and don't sign up.

So I really am trying to not post as many threads. I just was at a meeting the other night for VNEA and I had an epiphany. I decided to not do bar leagues cause it was going to be at a bar and loud music and busy etc. Or at least normally it would be this year might be different. I have also been told that Monday nights don't get busy but people have different ideas on what not busy is.

I was wondering how busy and loud do your bars get during leagues?

Please lets stay on topic.

Thanks

Since you're writing your own story why not just write in that you found a quiet bar with lots of new friends, free appetizers and the bar pays you to be there? Heck - get crazy and add they have awesome bridges?

I played in a bar league once, just once...., and that was a favour for a buddy. Never again.... Back in those days, some other strong 9ft players were in the bar leagues as well. The prize money was large, and truth be told the bar regulars (normal league members) didn't stand a chance against them. They were gods in that league. However they were also the breed that hung out in bars and enjoyed that atmosphere. Wasn't for me, or any other "serious" player I knew.

If the primary goal is to socialize and drink with would be buddies, then yes sign up and enjoy. If the goal is to play pool competitively, then stay away. That said, if you don't have any options, and crave competition then the choice has already been made.

It will not make your game better. It could make you mentally stronger I suppose. If you feel that asking people to move out of your way constantly and getting bumped while you shoot something you should get accustomed to....lol.
