Why so many people goes against Barry? If he´s a bad guy for pool, a drogadict, an alcoholic, a NON stand up guy? Just forget about him and the U.S. Open.

IMHO, good or bad, Behrman has been doing something for pool in the last 35 years. What are the others doing? Just a Witch´s hunt against the guy?

Why don´t you just start up another "world class open event" and let´s see how you hold it?

It´s easy to write hiding behind a computer, I invite all the haters to go outside, plan and make a better event. That´s the only acceptable way to say that Barry is doing it wrong.

Couldn't agree with you more. Barry must not be doing too bad if all the players & fans keep showing up. I know everyone has an opinion on him & it's their right to have it but at least say the things you're saying in public. I have nothing but respect for him & what he's done for the pool world.

I don't think people are hiding behind a computer. This is a website to discuss pool related topics..... A TD not paying out the top players is not going to be viewed as something positive. Are you implying that since we don't run a major event we shouldn't be critical of mistakes being made at the US Open?

Ok, the reason the players show up is for the Ranking points. Obviously they want to be paid what and when they were told too. The ranking points are big to players for World invites and Mosconi Cup picks. Also last year he payed out on time for the first time in a while and the players believed that the money was there. The ranking points are available based on how much added money Barry says he has. But when it comes down to it he really does not have the added money. So anyone can hold a $50k added tourney and get the best in the world there because they want the ranking points. Then after say Oh I don't have the money. So that is a lie to begin with. Going into the tourney lieing that he has the money when he clearly does not. Do you guys see that side of it at all?

People can have valid criticisms without being a tournament promoter. To suggest otherwise is utter nonsense.

I understand if you can't do it better then you can't bash him. Again though it can be said about anything and look at the players point of view. Would you spend about $2,500 to go to work for a week and 'Hope" you got paid?

Only Barry & the people involved know what happened to the money. I was just giving my opinion to this year. I don't know what all goes into running a tournament the size of the Open so I'm not going to criticize how it's run or try to speculate on what Barry does unless I know something that's true. As I've said in other threads, everyone is entitled to their own opinion about Barry. I just happen to have a good one of him & don't have anything negative to say because I saw what he went through in his personal life & I saw the changes he's made & what a better person he has become because of it.

Like it or not but just because he "is doing it" doesn't give him a free pass after not paying the top 6 players. Sorry if you feel otherwise but that is the cold hard truth. I don't think I could run a tournament like this.... that absolutely doesn't mean I shouldn't be critical of the mistakes he made. Tell me, how much money does he owe the players right now?

Let me ask you this.... if you go see a movie and it is the worst movie you ever saw would you hide your feelings because you never made a movie before?

Nope, I´d say is a bad movie. But..... If it´s the only movie that is made every year and it´s the only one I can see in a theather, I´d stay with my mouth shut, because I can´t make it better, and no one else is doing anything better to choose from.

2. You don't need to be a director to know if a movie is bad or good. Just like you don't need to be a tournament director to know if it was a bad or good tourny

The 1 thing he did that pissed me off is revoking paid entries to past Open winners. It's always been if you win the Open you have free entry (FOR LIFE) if he wants to stop offering that, that's fine.... but you can't revoke it for those who have already won.... THEY WON IT FAIR & SQUARE.... it already belongs to them.

2. Agree with you, but if I can´t do it better, I´d let him be.

It´s his tourney he can do whatever he wants with it, others can bring up the NORTHAMERICAN 10 BALL OPEN, THE USA 9 BALL OPEN, or whatever. And they can show with acts, how Barry should run his tourney. Until that day I´ll be letting Barry be.

I think espartaco's reason for posting is he's just tired of seeing people bash the guy.

I don't know barry personally, but my impression is not that he's a sleazy, dishonest guy. Maybe he's a screwup or a bad businessman. But not a bad person. I've heard several times that he runs this event at a loss, and I've never seen any evidence he gets rich from it.

Based on that, maybe people should dial it back a notch and stop being so harsh.
As far as I know, he does eventually pay up. And if it happens in just 2 weeks, that's not the end of the world.
