WBT announced that Barry Hearn OBE, Matchroom Sports President, and Andy Goldstein, renowned TalkSport Radio host, will be competing as wildcard players at the US Open Pool Championship at Harrah Resort, Atlantic City, August 19-24.

Hearn said, “To walk out there and play against one of 128 players from the World Nineball Tour, which are the 128 best Nineball players in the world, is incredible. If I win one rack in the first round, I’ll sleep happy.”

Responding to Hearn’s doubts of either of the two doing well, Andy Goldstein said, “I think you underestimate me, I actually think I have a chance at winning it.”

In preparation for their participation, both Matchroom Sports Chairman and TalkSport Radio host will be dedicating themselves to training regimes in months prior to the American Open.

Here's a snippet of the banter between Andy and Barry, which also includes some of Barry's thoughts on moving the Crucible. When Barry Hearn speaks, I definitely listen.

Barry, who's in favor of moving the World Snooker Championship away from the Crucible, responds to Andy, who's against moving it elsewhere. Here's my favorite part:

GOLDSTEIN: Okay. Let me ask ask you—let me ask you this question, right? And you have to answer honestly.
HEARN: I always do.
GOLDSTEIN: If you had a backup, let's say, in Asia or Saudi—
HEARN: Yep.
GOLDSTEIN: —and they said, "We want to bring the World Championship to us, and we're going to give you XYZ with regards to financial backing. And you get your 2 million pounds"—you have to answer honestly.
HEARN: Yep.
GOLDSTEIN: —"And you get your 2-million-pound first price, and you get everything you want, all the boxes. But trophy disappears, and we put a brand-new solid-gold trophy in place." Totally different.
HEARN: No problem with me. You can't eat a trophy, son.

Hahahaha. Gotta love Barry!

To be fair to Andy, he'd mop the floor with most people on this forum. Relatively competent snooker player.

Barry... dead money. Oh wait... he has all the money haha

Okay, I bet. Like Judd Trump did?
Judd Trump played forum members?
Not saying Andy would win anything lol
I am saying, he would be a competent player, and a challenge to some. Unlike some of the other silly 'wildcards' put up by MR.
Can't call Barry dead money, he'd arrange to have you offed 🤣

Trust me, there's at least 8 dozen people on this forum that would trounce Andy Goldstein.
You are correct about not fkn with Barry. You know he's got some secrets.

I am not saying there isn't 🤣 I did say most... To be honest, when most people get to a certain standard, they just need a good day. He is at a standard where a good day would see him compete at a high standard.
Barry for sure has seen people offed. That's the color of his money haha

Pretty sure if Barry Hearn wanted to give himself and his entire family byes all the way to the money rounds, Emily would do it with a huge smile on her face.
If Barry Hearn can make million dollar pool players like he did snooker and now darts of all things I’m sure the players Won’t give a shit.
You guys shit on matchroom all you want but you were the guys trying to keep a roof over your head and food on your plate with this game I’m betting your opinion would change.

Agree 100%. MR's done more more for pro pool than ANY org. in history. All these BCA/Brunswick nuthuggers tell me, just WTF has either company/org. done for professionals lately?? I'll tell you, not a damn thing. If BH wants to play so be it. No worse than some beer swilling dead-money jerkoff from the middle of nowhere.

Easy big fella. First off, I wasn't shitting on anything. Simply making the observation that BH owns the company and can do whatever he pleases.

2nd, some of ya'll act like pro pool players making money is dependent on ya'll jumping to MR's defense each and every time somebody doesn't loudly sing their praises. Feel free to hit your knees and worship at the alter of MR all you want, I could care less. In fact, I can't figure out how pool pros making more money has helped me pay a single bill or put one bite of food in my kids mouths, so good for the players, but again, it doesn't help me one bit.

Pretty cool, even if it's a publicity stunt. Thanks for the info

A little different deal, the Sigel-Efren match was meant to be a IPT lead off. Sigel was/is a longtime friend of the scumbag scam-artist KT.
That’s why I said sort of. Mike got the free ride and then Bata sent him home.
